Tony's Pick

This Computerphile video interprets a new paper to make the case that modern generative AI has a ceiling and we might be close or already there. It’s a plausible case, and it’s nice to see something on the subject closer to science than hype.

Kyle's (Jillian’s?) Pick

Over the last few years, my wife has gone down a rabbit hole around aviation accidents. She tricked me into watching several episodes of a Smithsonian Channel “docudrama” called Air Disasters. Spoiler alert: it’s good! (It is also confusingly known globally as Mayday, Air Crash Investigations, Air Emergency, and Air Crash: Disaster Revealed.)

In each episode, they use a combination of flight data recordings, interviews with NTSB / FAA / FBI investigators, and re-enactments to illustrate the details of an aviation incident. Every incident leads to a detailed analysis and new regulations that make air travel increasingly safe.

Bonus pick — she is also a big fan of the Admiral Cloudberg blog if you want even more detail on aviation safety.
