Mostly Hydrogen - Issue #1

Hey there :)

Welcome to the very first issue of Mostly Hydrogen!

A little experiment of a newsletter where I share ideas, games, articles, short films, side projects... basically whatever's been rattling around in my head lately.

I’ll try to send a new issue every couple of weeks (ish), but you know… 9–5 life 🤢

Let’s dive in 👇

🎮 Mullet Madjack

I've been completely hooked on Mullet Madjack lately. It's such a breath of fresh air. Frenetic, fast-paced, and built around roguelike mechanics, where every run feels like a brand new challenge.
The anime retro art style is absolutely badass too. Think neon colors, chunky pixels, and high-energy explosions everywhere.

In Mullet Madjack, you play as a cybernetically enhanced warrior in a wild, dystopian future where TV ratings are everything. You have to keep moving, fighting, and surviving to keep your ratings up. If they drop too low, it’s game over. It's a mad, over-the-top ride that feels somewhere between Hotline Miami and Slay the Spire, with a heavy arcade flavor.

Highly recommend it if you want something chaotic but skillful.

📚 Read List

  • How doing less can paradoxically make you more productive.

  • Yes, in the 1980s, people actually downloaded games by listening to the radio!

  • What if advertising was… illegal?

  • A font made to help kids learn to read.

🎯 Fun

This little game is strangely addictive

Snake on a globe 🌍🐍

It's basically classic Snake... but on a globe. You can get clever by crossing the poles to shorten your path. It’s weirdly satisfying and might make your brain hurt in the best way. Let me know your score!

A puzzle game for my fellow code/data nerds.

Sustainably made in Switzerland, this modular marble run is built to last and looks seriously fun.

It totally brings me back to my Marble League addiction. Anyone else? 👀

🎥 To Watch

Mzia the Elevator Operator is a quiet, tender short film about a woman who’s worked the same elevator for over 20 years, until one day, she finally leaves her post. It’s a gentle meditation on routine, solitude, and the small steps toward reclaiming your life.

The Miracle follows a boy sent to a strict boarding school, where loneliness pushes him to create an imaginary friend. Told through a mix of animation styles, hand-drawn, cut-out, and stop-motion. It’s a visually rich and emotionally raw story about coping, connection, and childhood resilience.
