Everyone's fool

Why I don’t prank anymore

April is a month that starts foolishly, and I abandoned playing pranks a while ago because they somehow always went wrong. Mostly because I underestimated the good-heartedness of the folks I surround myself with. My pranks were like “Look, I won the lottery!” or “Wow, they signed my book contract, I am rich now!”, but people were genuinely disappointed that I had no such good luck.

Me not doing any pranks doesn’t make me less of a fool, I am still pretty silly from time to time. I chose to become a less cynical human, and forward more trust to others. I still stand by that choice, and it has served me better than expected. Of course, some people will always try to use it against me, to ‘win’ by cheating or tricking me. But that’s probably harder to do than it seems. I may be a fool, but not everyone’s fool.

Projects

Short story collection(s)

I made up my mind about the Aeson Chronicles folder, and I think I will do theme collections - like, Pirates of Aeson or Surviving in Aeson. With a common theme, the stories will probably make more sense to the reader. On the other hand I guess I will have to write more stories, which is also good because then the collections will have exclusive tales in them. The only thing standing between this project and a book on my Ko-Fi shop is the task of reading & editing my own work, which can be a bit challenging.

Develop new writing routines

I am doing my best to keep writing despite the Everything and schedule collisions. Day-job and family life don’t give a damn about writing slots and post schedules. It is hard. I could complain more, but I will refrain.

Rewriting my novel

I am wrestling with new ideas and old problems. I really don’t see why the story I told would appease a reader who does know jack about the world or the former life of my protagonist. And yet I feel bound to those 110k words I wrote. But I think I have to let a great deal of them go. I have to rework the whole thing, shatter it and forge it anew. I am a wordsmith, after all.

A blink from the past

Bread is life. If you agree on that with Famfa and can stomach a little mayhem (ok, a lot of mayhem), this Author Avengers prompt fill from last year will be for you.

Fizz & Bang

I don’t have a lot to say at the moment, no universal wisdom, no insights, no fury that can’t be contained and spills onto the page. I keep it in, so it won’t cause more trouble than I can handle.

And I guess a lot of us feel like that sometimes, kinda drained and not ready to interact a whole lot with anything. The world is a lot these days, and so many of us struggle, so many despair.

Music always helps me, makes me feel better or is a cataclysm for emotions. Experiencing art in general. Listening to good tunes, absorbing paintings with your eyes, words with your brain. Through art experienced we find our own voices again, as if we were learning new words. So, in lack of wisdom or encouragement, why not share with you what I enjoyed lately? What kept my hopes alive, showed me that other humans still enjoy creating from their heart and opening their hearts to the world?

This helped me find my voice again this week:
