Today's Brisbane

High-rise apartments coming to suburban Brisbane

Brisbane Council has unveiled plans allowing apartment towers in suburban centres as the city prepares for a population boom over the next 15 years. The 'tall over sprawl' approach aims to accommodate growth, but questions remain about whether these new units will actually be affordable for everyday Brisbanites. The plan marks a significant shift in how our suburban neighbourhoods will look and feel.

You can buy an entire Queensland town for $400,000

Cooladdi, an outback town with a population of two, is up for sale. For less than many Brisbane apartments, you get a pub, post office, shop — and the job of running all three. It's more than 800km west of Brisbane, has its own postcode, and the new owner becomes postie, publican, cook and shopkeeper all at once.

Could You Qualify for a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card?

If you're over Age Pension age but don't qualify for the full pension due to assets, you might still be eligible for a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card. It offers cheaper prescriptions, bulk-billed doctor visits, and other health concessions. Check the income test limits on the Services Australia website — many self-funded retirees miss out simply because they don't apply.
