Moon Memo: Ice Station Moon

Good morning from the frozen tundra of the Foster/Powell Triangle. It's day 7 of confinement. We've lost water, then power, then got them all back. And now, hopefully, we are heading to a melt. Please let us be heading to a melt.

Loss of freedom. I've seen a lot of people talk about how this feels like that first pandemic March and april, when we couldn't leave our homes, had no idea when freedom would return. That feels about right. How do we survive these kind of times? With the little joys. Thank god I have Jade here.

BTW, today is Jade's birthday. I woke them up with confetti made from CPAP filters, and 32 spankings. :-) I always forget how much younger they are than me. I'm starting to see more gray in my hair, as they have more worry lines than they did when we met. They've missed 4 days of work. That next paycheck is going to be pretty thin.

We have found our little joys. The January Sumo tournament has started. One of the Ozekis is working towards becoming a yokozuna. The current Yokozuna returns from injury. Exciting times. I love seeing how into it Jade gets. We all know I'm a secret sports girl, but they are really into sumo. Watching them yell out with joy when their favorite wrestlers (Hoshoryu, Takayasu our Hairy King, Ura, Tobyzaru the handsome boy) is maybe my favorite thing about our relationship. Well, and their ass.

It's amazing to me how much of Outside In has stayed open during all of this. Our Day Program has kept kids fed and off the cold streets. The pharmacy is still open. The harm reduction/IV drug program has been out there passing along harm reduction supplies every day, even in their flooded office. And I've been here, running an orientation online, and pulling spreadsheet. Sometimes I feel like I'm such a small part of this good work.

Today I am 19 days into a poem a day this year. Decided I'm going to do the Stafford Challenge again. Sat in a zoom meeting with 250 other poets, listening to Kim Stafford tell us about his father's work.

Follow that golden thread.

Here are some golden threads I followed

Well, back to work. Thank you all for reading this. Miss faces. Miss hugs. Miss kisses on the neck.

Love and stuff,

Misha
