This Week in Coffee 28th of November 22

Firstly, it was 'Cyber Monday' yesterday and while I like to worship the great god Mammon as much as the rest of you - it makes following the news very difficult. If you want a few quid off a Nespresso machine then it was really your week. But that isn't what this update is about.

Industry

  • Lavazza to acquire France’s MaxiCoffee for undisclosed sum

This is mostly an effort by Lavazza to acquire market share in France and I predict it will mean some investment and the pushing of Lavazza products from now on.

  • Blank Street Coffee Adds Ecommerce To Rapid Growth Plans

Yankee coffee shop news but would love to hear from commentators on what they think of Blank Street. Worth a visit?

  • LEON to more than double its UK self-serve coffee kiosk presence

Back to the UK. We've seen a big increase in self service machines after they were first introduced to Waitrose almost a decade ago. Without a coffee 'pedigree' I don't understand why Leon would be successful here but I'm all for more coffee options.

  • Krispy Kreme to pay $1.2 million settlement to 516 staffers over not issuing wage bonuses

Yeah I mean - pay your workers. On time. Every time. It's not that hard.

Equipment

  • V3 EG-1 from Weber Workshops launches

Look - these dudes can just have my money I don't even know at this point. 3k GBP for a single dose grinder is obviously mental but dead god I want one and I don't even know what the V3 does that the V2 doesn't do.

Misc

  • Upgrade Your Gaggia Espresso Machine to a Professional Level with Gaggiuino

"Professional" should go in quotation marks. It's still a single boiler mid range home machine but I think this could be a fun project for some people.
