MOON BULLETIN - virgo szn, my lover and my enemy
So, it begins… virgo season… Ever since moving to the east coast and surrounding myself with art hoes, I’ve been told time and time again that being a virgo makes me meticulous, type-A, a planner and executor. And, well, here I am writing up a newsletter of events just because I was too stubborn to give in and use Instagram like everyone else. So, maybe it’s true. By the way, I’m thinking of bringing “art hoe” back… it really captures a certain aesthetic, doesn’t it? Anyways, shout out to all the art hoes and the virgos out there. And particularly to those who are both (me). Here’s some cool stuff coming up!
🌔 Careful in the Sun Film Screening + House Show in Ridgewood: Waxing Gibbous (Tue Sept 2 @ 7:30pm). Maya and friends put together this tender film; come enjoy with some other art and music and just general good vibes. Free, RSVP for address.
🌕 Pop-up Café: Sunset Picnic at Brooklyn Bridge Park: Full Moon (Sat Sept 6 @ 5:30pm). Mia, Swathi, and I are making some yummy treats, including new experiments in the savory dimension, as we enjoy a sunset from Brooklyn Bridge Park. Come through, bring a friend, bring a blanket. Free.

🌕 Harvest Moon at Fort Greene Park: Full Moon (Sun Sept 7 @ 6pm). September is the Harvest Moon — a time to honor the fruits of summer as it comes to a close. Come share in a harvest feast: please bring a nourishing food to share with the group and we’ll make a beautiful spread. Bonus for anything seasonal ☻ We’ll munch and hang out before commencing the moon ritual at 7:30pm. Meet at Ft Greene Park to the East of the monument; bring a blanket if you can! Free.
🌖 Gaza Biennale New York Pavilion Opening at Recess: Waning Gibbous (Thu Sept 11 @ 6pm). The Gaza Biennale is a decentralized exhibition celebrating the life and art of Palestinians working in and beyond Gaza. The description names it as an example of “creativity amidst calamity,” and it feels apt to me that the opening is taking place on the anniversary of 9/11, which has played a pivotal role in the Zionist imaginary fueling the genocide. Here’s hoping to keep complicating the narrative, making space for Palestinian life. Free.
🌖 Deadline to apply for A Cyborg Manifesto: 1985-2025: Waning Gibbous (Fri Sept 12 @ 11:59pm). I’m teaching this class where we analyze and explore Donna Haraway’s iconic manifesto on its 40th birthday. We’ll meet in Prospect Park and engage with the text beyond just analysis — should be a fun time! This is a DIY class so, even if it’s not for you, I would deeply appreciate if you share with friends / communities that would be interested! $300, scholarship and drop-in rates available.
🌖 Sounds of Home by lov/ethic at dear friends books: Waning Gibbous (Sat Sept 13 @ 7:30pm). A sweet show celebrating New York, raising funds for a scholarship for local PS44 students, with a strong community vibe. It’s going to be lovelyyy. $17.85.
🌖 things the mountain told me (kyle is 27) in Park Slope: Waning Gibbous (Sat Sept 13 @ 8pm). It’s my birthday party. Come celebrate ☻ . Free.
🌖 Public Service at Herbert von King Park: Third Quarter (Sun Sept 14 @ 3pm). Last Public Service of the year — come through for excellent music and a great time dancing the day away in the park. I’ll be there as part of my birthday weekend, come dance! Free.
