MOON BULLETIN - the early fall chill, finally...

Today was one of my top 10 favorite bikes rides I’ve ever had. Not because it was particularly scenic (going from park slope to bed-stuy), but because of the special feeling of a chill in the air. My favorite early fall song (Late Bloomer by Mereba) in my ears, wind blowing my hair back, I can feel the vibrancy of the day about to unfold. Early fall is often the busiest time of year, for me, full of birthdays and squeezing in time outside before the weather shifts and the days become less lounge-y. But at the same time, I don’t have too many events to share this newsletter. I’ve been trying to be intentional about cultivating flow, rather than structure, in my life. Personally, it’s what fits me better, right now. What this means is a bit less scheduling, a bit less planning in advance, a bit more sweet serendipitous moments!

🗣️Newsletter Plug: Real People in Real Time. My friend Nick has started compiling various gatherings and hangouts loosely organized around the theme of transcending tech — think phone-free events, protests outside the apple store, etc. It’s got a very similar DIY ethos to this newsletter, and I urge yall to sign up to meet like-minded folks! Sign up by emailing nickplante@proton.me.

🌘 Ziggurat Launch Party @ Bryant Park: Waning Crescent (Thu Sept 18 @ 5:30pm). A conversation about tech’s overreach, featuring a co-founder who has been speaking out about against Palantir’s plans for the world. Free, email hi@zig.art for a spot.

🌘 Monthly Molting: Eastern Gray Squirrel @ Prospect Park: Waning Crescent (Sat Sept 20 @ 1pm). Join us (Chimeras Collective) to honor and reflect on our fluffy dear neighbor, the squirrel. Consider it like a casual park hang, but with nonhumans at the center. Free with RSVP.

🌑 New Moon and Autumnal Equinox (Sun Sept 21): This year the new moon and equinox converge, for a time of reflection and thanks-giving. On the new moon, I’ll be celebrating a couple dear friends’ birthdays, reveling in the possibilities of friendship + community <3.

🌒 Hope & Healing Climate Grief Film Screenings @ The Climate Imaginarium: Waxing Crescent (Wed Sept 24 @ 3pm): So much happening with Climate Week this year; it’s mostly corporate nonsense, but amongst it all there are some gems. This is one of them, I think — a place to feel and reflect on climate grief. Free.

🌒 Genspace Biomaterials Group Exhibition @ farm.one: Waxing Crescent (Fri Sept 26 @ 6pm). Some friends are showing work exploring the edges of bio art, it’s going to be sweet! Free.

🌓 How to Get to Zero at Pioneer Works: Ongoing (Until Dec 14). Missed the opening this past weekend, but this show by two artists I admire presents a delightful mix of legitimate activism and conceptual art around climate. Come buy a carbon offset supporting the defense fund of Luigi Mangione (shooting a CEO is great for the climate, statistically), spend time on the phone with an oil/gas exec, and ponder the weird world of corporate climate adaptation. Free.
