MOON BULLETIN - smells like spring
Greetings from sunny Honolulu, where I’m visiting a dear friend for the week. I might be writing this from under a palm tree with the sound of ocean waves in the background, but I am genuinely sad to be missing the next couple weeks in NYC. This time of year, with early spring blooms pushing their way through the soil, joyous moments of sun bursting through the clouds, and the gradual expansion of folks’ social batteries, is one of my favorites. Surely, I’ll come back to new york changed, myself, and find myself face to face with a city that has shifted in my absence. But while I’m missing these gatherings (except the last one… my triumphant return…) I still wanted to share some of the joyous opportunities for coming-together as we welcome April. Ok, that’s all, gonna go for a swim now ✰.
🌓 Slow Burn Listening Party at dear friend books: First Quarter (Wed Mar 25 @ 8pm). Everyone should go listen to Maya’s new album Slow Burn right now! It’s so amazing <3 and then come and listen not only to the album but some beautiful live sets including by Cami who also just released an amazing album Runoff! Talented friends! Free.
🌓 Unplatform Creatives Workshop at 875 3rd Ave: First Quarter (Thu Mar 26 @ 6:30pm). Damian is leading this workshop for and with creatives who are frustrated by platform dominance. If you, like me, get frustrated by the way people always ask to exchange instagrams after meeting at a creative event, this is for you. Actually, that’s a big part of why I made this newsletter in the first place. Free.
🌔 Karfari: War and Peace at Prospect Park: Waxing Gibbous (Sat Mar 28 @ 2pm). Markus has been leading these “car walks for people who don’t like cars” and they’ve become a portal into seeing the city anew for me (self-avowed car hater). With yet another needless war adding an energy crisis into the mix, we’re likely to see a shift in the automobile landscape of NYC. Come discuss, hang, and learn about the two ton death-machines that take up a majority of our public space. Free.
🌕 Pink Moon: Full Moon (Wed Apr 1). No NYC-based moon ritual this time, as I’ll be gathering with loved ones on a San Francisco beach instead. That said, I still invite you moon-lovers to explore a ritual of your own, either alone or with others. The Pink Moon represents the pinks that begin to characterize our ecology with spring blooms. Pink for pollinators; what colors do you want to attract pollination in this spring? Also, an all-pink altar makes for a gorgeous contemplative place.
🌕 St. Stupid’s Day Parade at Zucotti Park: Full Moon (Wed Apr 1 @ 1pm). The 4th annual East Coast St. Stupid’s Day (50th annual on the west coast). Stupidity, really, is what brings us together. Free.
🌗 Let’s Get Off Together at telos.haus: Last Quarter (Fri Apr 10 @ 9pm). We’re back to get off together. Come ready to dance, dismantle, and drive up stakeholder value. Confused? Come by and find out more. Bring cash, because there will be no phones at this party. $15-20 suggested donation.
