MOON BULLETIN - Q3, L1264
One thing about the world is that it really will keep going. The sun rises; it sets. Days get longer. Worms writhe in the mud, squirrels dig for the nuts they buried and then forgot. I’ve been finding this to be a comfort, lately, as I find myself oscillating between anxiety and grief. Yesterday, Mischa sent me a picture of the very first buds of a magnolia tree, showing just a hint of pink. On Wednesday, Olivia and I went to the zoo and watched tree kangaroos feeding each other leaves. Tuesday saw me laying in the sun in the park, next to a field of blooming purple crocus flowers. All I have to do is walk outside and look down, or up, or deeply at a particular place, and I’ll be confronted with a world paradoxically both simple and complex. Spring has arrived in New York, and these worlds are all around us, growing, changing, and offering a reminder that things just keep on going.
🌗 In Our Decline at The Invisible Dog Art Center: Third Quarter (Sat Mar 22 @ 12 - 6pm). This event “features performative activations, visual art offerings, and public conversation and engagement with a range of artists, curators, and scholars” around themes of decay, ruin, and collapse. Seems quite heady & intellectual, but I’m hoping the performance aspects will open up some space to really experience things. Also, keynote speaker Jack Halberstam wrote one of my favorite books I read last year! Free.
🌗 Karfari in Greenpoint: Third Quarter (Sun Mar 23 @ 11 - 2pm). At the last Karfari Markus hosted in Tribeca, I learned so much about cars (which I have since forgotten…) in an environment where it felt comfortable to know nothing. This is not your bro-y knowledge dump fest, but a chance to appreciate the designed objects that continue to dominate our cities. Free.
🌘 Conversation with Mosab Abu Toha at The New School: Waning Crescent (Mon Mar 23 @ 6 - 7pm). Gazan poet Mosab Abu Toha will be reading from his recent collection Forest of Noise, written during this latest siege of Gaza, which destroyed a community library he built, his home, and the lives of many in his family. How does one make art in a time of such suffering? Free.
🌑 New Moon (Sat Mar 29). This new moon, I’ll be thinking about this Jim Harrison poem. Don’t let the clock cut up your life in pieces!!!

🌒 No North Brooklyn Pipeline Fossil Fuel Walking Tour at McGolrick Park: Waxing Crescent (Sun Mar 30 @ 3pm). National Grid is continuing to invest in New York state’s largest fossil fuel depot — which I was surprised to find out is right in Brooklyn! This walking tour will visit the facility and share the alliance’s efforts to turn this huge facility into a place that serves the community. Free.
🌒 Sidewalk Study on Public Bodies in Hudson Yards: Waxing Crescent (Sun Mar 30 @ 3pm). Cam my and I are leading this study examining who really gets to be the “public” that massive investments like Hudson Yards are for. Also pairing this text with some yummy critique by Jameson :). Free, RSVP for address.
🌒 Harnessing the Power of Your Cycle at SoulWork Yoga Studio: Waxing Crescent (Sun Mar 30 @ 3:30 - 5:30pm). Explore the sacred connection between your menstrual cycle and the moon, in Harnessing the Power of Your Cycle. Come for a transformative, informative and empowering learning session, cycle-friendly snacks and a gentle, moon-inspired yoga flow. Kayla (my future roommate!) is leading this… how perfect of an event for a moon bulletin! $40.
