MOON BULLETIN - i put my bare feet in the soil and have never felt more alive
Last night, I went for a long walk through Prospect Park. Sitting on a bench, I watched the last dredges of sunset while branches swayed in the wind. I thought to myself… wow, this is it! This is what it’s really about! We’re entering into “sit in the park season” — if you need me, you can probably find me with my toes in the dirt. There’s something primal about that; I firmly believe that dirt between your toes activates an animal need for connection to the earth. Let go of your attachment to cleanliness! Your clothes will be ok!
The month of April is shaping up to be quite full. We’re approaching the pink full moon, so named for the abundant pink flowers blooming on trees and vines in the region during this time of year. I never cease to be amazed by the abundance of flowers on trees as I pass them walking through the streets of Brooklyn. Truly, it is a season of abundance, including some of these upcoming events. I’ll be hosting/facilitating quite a bit this month, and would love to see folks at some of the gatherings below <3.
🌓 Lengua, Cuerpo, Territorio at Shipibo Conibo Center: First Quarter (Sat Apr 5 @ 4pm). Porch Water Press is putting on this special event featuring Comcáac poet, rapper, and activist Zara Monrroy and Carmen Elizabeth Tolaba and Alejandra Tentle of Red de Pueblos Transnacionales — discussing language as a place of struggle and liberation. Should be invigorating! Free.
🌓 Recipe of Relation by Lov/ethic at School of Radical Attention: First Quarter (Sat Apr 5 @ 5:30pm). An intentional (attentional?) potluck by the Lov/ethic collective, inspired by their shared study. We’ll be feasting, gobbling, devouring, etc. Free, RSVP required.
🌔 Computer Care Café at Index Space: Waxing Gibbous (Sun Apr 6 @ 2pm). I’m hosting this spa for you and your laptop. Ritual cleansing, tea, pastries, spa treatments, and support to develop a care relationship with your devices. Drawing from a past collaboration with Raya as Tomorrow Soup. $25.

🌔 Sidewalk Study on Moana at the High Line: Waxing Gibbous (Tue Apr 8 @ 7pm). I’m leading this study with Jahoney, in which, pairing the lyrics of How Far I’ll Go from Moana with a critique of the “Disneyization of Society,” we’ll ask, is this really just a vibe, and is our city becoming Disneyland? Free, RSVP required.
🌔 Andrea Long Chu Book Talk at the Center for Fiction: Waxing Gibbous (Wed Apr 9 @ 7pm). Andrea Long Chu is an iconic critic. I’m excited to hear what she has to say about the role of criticism in a time of shifting dynamics of authority. $35, includes book.
🌔 Futurescape Exhibition + Book Launch at Steuben Gallery, Pratt: Waxing Gibbous (Thu Apr 10 @ 4pm). This exhibition launches the book Recipes for a Warming World, which invites multisensory appreciation for plants that will thrive in a warming world. Jean, the artist behind it, is a warm soul thinking deeply about living well on a damaged planet — truly an inspiration. Free.
🌕 Pink Moon in Dumbo: Full Moon (Sat Apr 12 @ 7:30pm). This full moon, I’m doing things a bit different, moving outside my house and theming the full moon rituals around attention, as we’ll be gathering at the School of Radical Attention space. Please bring an offering representing something that has caught your attention lately. RSVP required this time, so send me your email if you’d like to join! Free, RSVP required.

🌕 Microbes! The Musical at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater: Full Moon (Sun Apr 13 @ 2pm & 5pm). Caroline has turned her research into insect-fungi relations into a musical — making theater about beings we can’t see, but that we’re always dependent upon. Sure to be full of joy. $30-40.

🌖 Open House at Kingsland Wildflowers: Waning Gibbous (Fri Apr 18 @ 5pm). Stroll through a rooftop wildflower garden in view of the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, one of the most iconic buildings in Brooklyn. Happening every Friday through June, I’m planning to go at least once starting on the 18th ✿. Free.
🌖 Karfari in Clinton Hill: Waning Gibbous (Sat Apr 19 @ 11am). I love when my friends have a depth of knowledge about something I’m completely ignorant about. This time around, Markus is not only going to share accessible info on car design in Clinton Hill, but is also leading a visit to a car show afterwards. Free, RSVP required.
🌖 Pop-up Café in Fort Greene Park: Waning Gibbous (Sat Apr 19 @ 2pm). Mia, Swathi, and I are back with another cafe. This time, we’re going to be set up outside as a picnic — come get some delicious treats! Depending on weather, we may move it inside. Free.

🌗 Egg Tour in Downtown Manhattan: Third Quarter (Sun Apr 20 @ 11am). I’ve been playing with the idea of leading an egg tour of NYC for a while, saving up spots with egg-related treats and visuals. Now with spring and Easter arriving, I thought it would be the perfect time. Come join for egg tarts, ceramic eggs, and lively discussion about the symbol of the egg. Free.
