MOON BULLETIN - heaven smells like pumpkin bread

One of the great and simple joys of my year has been attending to its many moments of serendipity. After a few years of living in New York, finding my own groove and grounding into the spaces and communities here, I’ve been running into friends while out and about at an increased pace. It’s delightful! Part of the intention of this newsletter is to facilitate more of those moments. I’m including a couple pictures from one such run-in, with Amalia, Amber, and Chloe at the Observe the Moon Night hosted by Pioneer Works. We had so much fun, and I found it a reminder of why I put the effort into compiling and sharing this newsletter. Social media has warped some of our expectations regarding scale and prestige, but it only takes a few serendipitous run-ins to have a deeper impact than all the sold out Instagrammable events in Brooklyn could have for me, probably.

As Autumn settles in to the tune of nonstop rain, I’m feeling a deep excitement for fall gatherings. Yesterday my roommates and I lounged in our living room for hours, chatting and sipping tea while the aroma of pumpkin bread filled the air. This is what it’s about! So while things are hardly slowing down, they are taking a turn towards the cozy, as with many of these upcoming offerings.

🌘 Upcoming: Deportation defense trainings. DM for details and learn how to fight ICE and protect your neighbors. Training offered on multiple dates in many locations!

🌘 Over the Garden Wall Watch Party in Prospect Heights: Waning Crescent (Wed Oct 15 @ 7pm). Join us for cider, fall baked goods, and perhaps the best seasonal animated series ever made. Free.

🌘 Rats, Pigeons, and Cockroaches at Abrons Art Center: Begins Waning Crescent (Thu Oct 16 @ 6pm). Still a couple days left to join us for four Thursday classes exploring disgust, interspecies kinship, and the vibrant ecology of NYC’s vermin. Sliding scale $45 - 320.

🌘 Gnomes! Treasure Hunt in Prospect Park: Waning Crescent (Sun Oct 19 @ 11am). The Mad Hatchery makes incredibly immersive, playful, and challenging treasure hunts happen in Prospect Park. This time, the theme is gnomes, and the opportunity is doubled: they’re hosting another on Saturday October 25. $15 suggested donation.

🌘 Monthly Molting: Persimmon in Prospect Park: Waning Crescent (Sun Oct 19 @ 1pm). Did you know that persimmon seeds have been used as divination tools for upcoming winter weather? Join Chimeras Collective to explore this practice, make your own upcoming winter preparations, and connect to the ecology of Prospect Park. Free.

🌘 Harnessing the Power of Your Cycle at Third Door Brooklyn: Waning Crescent (Sun Oct 19 @ 6pm). Restorative yoga, meditation, and learning about nutrition and lifestyle choices that align with your menstrual cycle. Also, the moon! $30.

🌑 New Moon (Tue Oct 21). This autumnal New Moon offers us a chance to mirror the falling leaves and let go of that which has served its purpose. It’s not death, just transformation; what parts of yourself will you cultivate in the coming winter?

🌒 WHEREWOLF??? 𓃦 in Prospect Heights: Waxing Crescent (Wed Oct 22 @ 7pm). Come do what Halloween is meant for: playing like you're a kid and being a lil tricksy (and accidentally summoning dark spirits). We’ll have some refreshments at 7, but the games really begin at 7:30. Space is limited, so only RSVP if you’re truly ready to play. Free.

🌒 Cozy Care Package Drive at Location TBD: Waxing Crescent (Sun Oct 26 @ 1pm). Bring a bulk good and enjoy crafting care packages for Coalition for the Homeless with good vibes, friendship, and collective care <3. Free.

🌔 The Coven Seeks New Talent in Prospect Park: Waxing Gibbous (Fri Oct 31 @ 8pm). Part immersive theatrical event, part treasure hunt, part spooky halloween romp through the park. We’re at capacity but might open some spots off the waitlist, so join up if you’re up for an evening of haunted networking where anything might happen. Free.
