MOON BULLETIN - "feels like 98°" shut uppppp

We’re really in deep summer now — long, languishing days, humidity you can almost feel in the air. That’s my cue to dip, and I will: I’m headed to Colorado for all of August, spending time with family and the mountains (who are, in a way, also my family). As such, I’ll be taking a break from the Moon Bulletin until what I’m sure will be a very busy September. But for now, still lots of great gatherings upcoming ✿.

🌘 Karfari in Bushwick: Waning Crescent (Sun July 20 @ 11am). Markus is leading another of these guided experiences. Think an architecture walk, but for cars. Recommended especially if you are, like me, a devout car critic. Free.

🌘 Your Seat at the Table Dinner Party in Crown Heights: Waning Crescent (Sun July 20 @ 5pm). Miranda and Julia lead these thoughtful dinner parties in which you learn about local food systems while enjoying delicious plates atop a rooftop. Last time, the sunset was spectacular, as were the ice cream sandwiches! $35.

🌑 Wise Companionship with Artificial Minds at telos.haus: New Moon (Wed July 23 @ 7pm). Olivia’s workshop will explore how we might intentionally orient ourselves towards companionship with AIs. It will be playful, speculative, thought-provoking, and an antidote to any “AI is changing the world!!!” slop you might have read on LinkedIn. $25 suggested.

🌑 New Moon (Thu July 24). Following a powerful — and, for many, troubling — lightning full moon a couple of weeks go, this new moon offers us the chance to take a step back, quiet down, and ask where all our power is going to, anyways. This Thursday, in my personal new moon ritual, I’ll be asking: what could I do if I really let myself express the ways I feel powerful?

🌒 Field Day in Prospect Park: Waxing Crescent (Sat July 26 @ 1pm). Bring back field days! That’s exactly what Laura and Hannah are doing — silly team games, nostalgic snacks, joyously running around in the grass. Let me know if you wanna join my team ☻. Free.

🌒 Kingsland Wildflowers Festival in Greenpoint: Waxing Crescent (Sat July 26 @ 2pm). A 25,000 sqft wildflower rooftop garden right next to the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant always feels to me like a juxtaposition perfectly representative of what it’s like to live in NYC. This is the kind of future I want! Free.

🌒 Pop-Up Cafe Sunset Picnic Edition at Brooklyn Bridge Park: Waxing Crescent (Sun July 27 @ 5:30pm). Mia, Swathi, and I are cooking up some yummy treats (ofc my cornbread will be included) for a sunset picnic. Close out the weekend with some good vibes as we hang and watch the sunset over manhattan! Free.

🌒 Wise Companionship with Artificial Minds at Index: Waxing Crescent (Wed July 30 @ 7pm). If you can’t make the workshop on the 23rd, Olivia’s also doing one on the 30th! $25.

🌓 Live TEA Demonstration & Gathering at The Cooper Union: First Quarter (Thu July 31 @ 5:30pm). Justin and Melody are probably the only people who are going to be able to make a techno-economic analysis event cool. Jesse will be sharing some of his work on early-stage TEAs, which builds off some stuff we worked on together with cohost Dan. A fun collision of worlds for me! Sadly, I’ll be out of town and won’t make it, but if you ever want to chat TEAs, please hit me up. I’ve been dying for anyone other than the folks mentioned to show interest. Free.
