MOON BULLETIN - falling leaves, etc.

Oh, autumn! Yesterday, while making our way to Prospect Park, Naedo and I couldn’t stop marveling at the colors. A magenta scarf here, a red brick building there, dappled sunlight through the tree-lined streets. We live in a richly sensory world; what a blessing! And a blessing to share it with loved ones, to dance, to dine, to dream. Some familiar feeling crept back in this weekend: when it’s cold out, and you’re cozy inside, delaying the inevitable of the journey back home. I love this feeling, which I had forgotten in the warm summery haze of the past few months. There’s something tender and delirious about staying just a bit too long at the party, before you finally muster up the courage to face the outdoors. The evening chills are upon us, the falling leaves moon soon growing full, and I’m intending to savor each part of it. See you soon at some of these delightful upcoming events?

🌔 Protecting Kids Online in the Age of AI at Brooklyn Heights Library: Waxing Gibbous (Wed Oct 21 @ 10:30am). Nick’s part of this wide-ranging panel chatting about chatbots and their impacts. Let’s see if we can switch up the narrative, yeah? Free.

🌔 Inside the Mind at 28th St. Theater: Waxing Gibbous (Thu Oct 22 @ 7pm). A one-person show all about the imagined places we visit inside our heads, by talented animator Tala Schlossberg. $22.50.

🌔 Phone Free Comedy with Dan Fox at Pete’s Candy Store: Waxing Gibbous (Fri Oct 23 @ 7pm). Dan is funny (not biased). Pete’s Candy Store is awesome. I will be laughing. Free.

🌕 Pirates of Prospect Park Treasure Hunt at Prospect Park: Full Moon (Sun Oct 25 @ 11am). Sam and co. put together these amazing biannual treasure hunts through the park. Think puzzles, characters, running around to get the latest clue. Also happening on Nov 7, when I’ll be participating! $15 suggested donation.

🌕 5 Boro Foto Fest at Culture Lab LIC: Full Moon (Sun Oct 25 @ 11am). An explicitly anti-AI art festival — support human artists, human photography, humans having a good time. Free.

🌕 Falling Leaves Moon at Fort Greene Park: Full Moon (Mon Oct 26 @ 7pm). In October, we celebrate the Falling Leaves Full Moon, as the foliage changes all around us. Reflect in community on transitions and release through a full moon ritual. Bring a leaf or leaf-related craft to add to our communal altar, meet to the East of the monument of Fort Greene Park. Ritual starts at 7:30, and maybe bring something to sit on + some layers as it gets chilly! Free, email me for indoor location if poor weather.

🌕 Over the Garden Wall Watch Party and Autumnal Vibes for All in Park Slope: Full Moon (Tue Oct 27 @ 7pm). Every year I watch Over the Garden Wall in autumn, basking in the slightly spooky, cute, and atmospheric vibes. Bring some kind of fall-themed treat or offering to share! Free, RSVP for address.

🌖 Poetry & Song: Naomi Shihab Nye & Haleh Liza Gafori at The Sheen Center for Thought and Culture: Waning Gibbous (Thu Oct 29 @ 7:30pm). At a house show celebrating James Bird’s new album (buy it here! support your local bard!) the other week, I had the pleasure of witnessing Haleh’s amazing translations of the poetry of Rumi — this performance is sure to be even more powerful, as she’s joined by a band! It’s certain to be a nourishing evening. $30.

🌖 Capture the Future in Prospect Park: Waning Gibbous (Fri Oct 30 @ 7pm). Immersive big game of capture the flag in the park at night on Halloween. I mean, you gotta be there. Don’t be late, or you might just lose control of the future… Free.
