The Convention Reinvention of Self Occassionally Requires A Soft Reboot
Hello friends. You may have noticed that Mixed Media with Mikkel has migrated off of Substack and you're now getting your weekly dose of Tuesday pop culture musings and Friday paralumans via Button Down. The thing is that the Substack as a platform served my exact needs of being an easy to use newsletter management tool and I saw a lot of people I look up to using said tool. And then over the weekend, Substack decided to be once again be very loud about it's lack of content moderation (something it had down before) and agreeing with a technological oligarch (a new, more frustrating development). So here's the thing, I'm doing this newsletter mostly so I can chronicle errant musings and entertain about a dozen of my friends every week and also as a means to self-motivate to keep writing and keep creating in times where creating and writing can be hard. And even though Substack is not getting any revenue from me because I have no intention asking folks for money for whatever conjuration comes up before Tuesday, it doesn't feel great. I'm not going to burn it to the ground, if only because I have used several URLs throughout a variety of places. But I am going to be moving it over to Button Down. It's like shocking easily to migrate things over. A simple export/import and hopefully absolutely nothing has been disrupted on your end. You should be getting this at 1PM on a Tuesday and the only thing different is that if you were using the Substack app to like/comment, you can't. You can always just email me directly if you something was particularly resonant. I don't like particularly like change, but the fact remains is that sometimes we must. Not to make some grand statement, but to just feel slightly better about the things we do. So, with that bit of maintenance out of the way, I hope this worked and I'll be back this Friday with a small little comic and next Tuesday with... something Valentine's Day related. What that something is, I'm excited to find out. Till next time.
