A Quick Recap of 2025 & a Small Update on 2026

2025
The best movie I saw this year was Sinners.
My favorite movie was Weapons.
The Pitt was the best television show I saw and also my favorite, which is honestly a feat given that I started out calling the show “Legally-Distinct-From-ER ER” due to the lawsuits with the Crichton estate, but damn the show grew on me.
Dispatch was my favorite game.
Endsickness was my favorite comic book.

Hench was my favorite book book.

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth was my favorite anime.
I did far too much, but it was also 100% worth it.
Also, I can now proudly claim I am regular contributor to the 2025 Hugo Award Winning Fanzine, Black Nerd Problems. That’s pretty damn cool.
2026
I don’t know how not to do stuff. So I guess I got keep doing stuff. There are lots of things in the works, but to keep it focused on this newsletter: I want my audience to grow. I want my own Hugo Award. I don’t know if that’s a reasonable ask from the universe, but I also know it’s kinda tenable. This does mean that I have to like… attach my newsletter to my social media. Make sure it posts to my Instagram and my Bluesky. Occassionally promote it. Ask people to subscribe if they like my work. Terrifying.
But being known isn’t so bad. It’s kinda nice sometimes. But that’s something for January 2026 Mikkel to figure out.
May the remainder of this interstitial time of year be peaceful to you. I am more than likely at an airport, the most liminal space I could be in, waiting to go back home and after resetting, will continue the work. Not because the work is necessary, but because the work in its own way is rewarding.
