RAINY DAY NEWS FEATURING PRIVATE PIRATES

You are receiving this newsletter because at some point in your life you thought, “Hey, this married creative team that makes participatory and immersive experiences seems interesting. I would like to know what they are up to and be the first to hear about their new projects.”

Or you came to one of our shows.

Either way-- welcome to our very occasional newsletter!

PRIVATE PIRATES!

A collage of film photos showing people having fun at KBLT, dancing, playing music, and making a mess.

We’ve wrapped our public ticketed performances of 40 Watts From Nowhere: Silver Lake. But buck up, pirates! For one more month we are offering the chance to experience our interactive memoir / immersive pirate radio experience for private groups! So grab up to 5 of your pals and head on over to bit.ly/40watts to reserve your spot before the FCC shuts us down at the end of March.

M&M ON THE AIR AND IN YOUR EARS

A collage image showing people having fun at 40 Watts From Nowhere, a graphic showing a woman's smiling face, a screen capture from a video podcast, and a screen capture of a internet article about Sue Carpenter.

Giuliana Mayo, from Greater LA on KCRW, visited KBLT and produced a wonderful piece about not only our experience, but about Sue Carpenter and the history of this jolly pirate radio ship.

Here's a fun piece that aired on Spectrum News about our show.

Andy was interviewed by Lisa Rodriguez for the podcast Making it After 40, and we may be partial, but it’s a particularly fun view inside of her brain and how she approaches the “weird stuff” that we create.

Andy & Jeff were interviewed for the aptly named “Hello Chaos” podcast about being a teeny tiny business and what it means to make immersive theater together.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH

A graphic image that reads Black Immersive Creators Grant.

This initiative is awesome year-round, but let's give an extra February signal boost and honor Black History by supporting the future! The Black Immersive Creators Grant is “a cash award of $10,000 for US-based Black artists who are interested in creating immersive artwork.” We’re fans of any opportunity to encourage new immersive work, and especially love that this organization is working to make it easier for black artists to get their work off the ground. Applications for the next grant cycle will open at the end of this month. Find out more, donate or apply here: https://www.blackimmersivecreatorsgrant.com/

A HAUNTING EXCHANGE

Two images side by side showing a group of smiling people at Hope End and a group of smiling people at KBLT holding tangled wires and throwing paper in the air.

L to R: 40 Watts visits Hope End, The Ministry visits KBLT

Looking to do some celebrating/bonding (celebonding?) the 40 Watts team gleefully gathered to explore a very puzzling home at The Ministry of Peculiarities…and we loved every second of it.  Just days later, we got a chance to share 40 Watts with the hearts and brains that built The Ministry of Peculiarities. Our immersive makers cultural exchange was a blast and we cannot recommend The Ministry highly enough. So if you’ve experienced 40 Watts From Nowhere and are looking for another thrilling immersive time with your friends, head on over to THE MINISTRY OF PECULIARITIES: HOPE END to learn more. If you enjoy beautifully-designed fun that is crafted with care, you’ll be glad you made the trip.

MORE TO COME SOON

We're winding down our time in Silver Lake, but there will be a little more KBLT news coming soon....stay tuned (to our Instagram @misterandmischief) for more from Paige Jarrett/Sue Carpenter and her motley crew of DJs as we head towards the 25th anniversary of the station’s last broadcasts.

And undoubtedly Mister and Mischief will ride again with something new soon!
