Libraries, Larkins, and more this Spring
Greetings, springy friends! Here’s what we’ve been up to, and what we’re looking forward to as the days get longer and the sun gets braver.
A Night at the Library, a Whirlwind of Words
At the top of March, the Library Foundation of Los Angeles invited to be a part of their arts takeover of Central Library in DTLA. We quickly accepted the invite and set out to create something wholly unique for this event.
We estimate over 1,000 folks joined the Narrative Treatment Plant, our live participatory installation in the Arts and Recreation Department. Patrons were invited to join our after-hours crew in a flurry of processes with one goal in mind- turn ideas into stories.

A robust cast of beloved Mister & Mischief alums from all of our shows alongside new friends we’ve been dying to work with kept the place humming from 7:30 to midnight!

And if that wasn’t enough, we were graced with three incredible writers who integrated every single participant piece into one, giant story writing nonstop from opening chime until security literally shut us down!
Sound complicated? Here’s a simple graphic representation of the narrative treatment process.

Looking for even more insight into the experience? ARG designer and immersive aficionado Nick Tierce made this delightful POV WALKTHROUGH. Thanks, Nick!
If you were a part of The Narrative Treatment Plant, you may be wondering what happened to our Narrative Treatment Plant Perpetual Narrative Product - well, wonder no more! All 10,000 words, both participant generated and writer integrated are available to melt your mind HERE.
You can see our list of collaborators HERE.
OBJECTIVITY’s Bill Larkin is LIVE in LA!
You may remember OBJECTVITY’s heartbroken, piano-playing, song-writing, mug collector “Bill” played by the incredible Bill Larkin.

And if you have a soul, you probably fell in love with him and would love to see more of his incredible, hilarious, brilliance.
And if you are in Los Angeles, GOOD NEWS! He’s playing this weekend, Friday and Saturday! Get your tickets and get some more Bill Larkin in your life.
Sometimes we say things!
Andy’s on a few podcasts- give a listen if you like pop-culture and/or our particular brand of nerdiness.

WoW FEST IS COMING. We’re hyped.
While we are not bringing a new piece to WoW Festival this year, it means that this year we get to EXPLORE! We can’t wait to see, hear, and experience as much as we can at this one-of-a-kind festival that celebrates performances of unusual shapes and sizes.

Extra super excited to check out Bev and Blanche’s Care-A-Van, co-created by Mister & Mischief fave Esty Bharier!
Experience Creation workshop in a library? Yes please.
Andy will lead a hands-on introduction to the world of experience design as an art form through a creative workshop where participants can design and share their own experience project. Saturday, May 17 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the absolutely charming Chatsworth branch library.

Deep breath. We need libraries— and now libraries need us.
On March 14, The White House issued an Executive Order intended to dismantle the only federal agency dedicated to funding library services, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Please stay informed and take action in whatever way you can.
Visit your local branch. Shout your library love from the rooftops. Call your reps.
We’ll see you all soon
Every time we start writing one of these newsletters, we wonder what we have to say, and every time we finish, we realize there is SO MUCH TO SAY. If you found us through the Narrative Treatment Plant, welcome, we’re so glad you made it.
It’s a wild world out there right now— make some weird art; go see someone’s weird art; have a dinner party; invite friends over to play games— board games, card games, video games; sing a song to a loved one; draw a picture terribly, then do it again; get back into that book you want to read; have beers and paint miniatures; call a friend on the phone to ask for their address so you can write them a letter…
There are as many ways to connect with your people as words on the internet but it’s the connection that makes the impact.
We hope to see you soon!
