Fall for Mister and Mischief

You are receiving this newsletter because you attended one of our shows in the past, or signed up to hear about our art antics. If you don’t want this very occasional missive- all good. Not a prob.

We were all set to send a silly autumnal newsletter but we cannot share joyful updates without acknowledging the reality around us.

(Deep breath) No doubt about it, the world is heavy. As parents and creatives, we live with emotional multitasking everyday. The heart/brain/muscles that allow us to build, interrogate, mourn, care and play all at once have been getting worked out more than ever this past week.

We're not going to share statements of sorrow and anger in this email- your feeds and inboxes and psychic spaces are surely flooded as ours are.  But in an effort to put one foot in front of another, and to possibly help you do the same, we’re sharing upcoming news and opportunities to engage with our work, as well as a few other recommended ways to charge your creative battery.

Here at Mister & Mischief, we believe that being playful and present with others is the first step to imagining a better world.

40 Watts from Nowhere will be at the Denver Film Festival November 8 -- 11.

We’re taking our experiential pirate radio documentary on the road! 40 Watts From Nowhere heads to the Denver Film Festival Nov 8-11. Tell all your coolest Colorado buddies to grab their tickets to what critics call “electric, powerful, and utterly joyful.”

Denver is home to one of the most exciting immersive art scenes in the country, and we are thrilled to return to the land of delicious food halls, fantastic film programming, and of course-- the one and only-- Casa Bonita.

CASTING

Koryn Wicks' CASTING will also be joining us at the Denver Film Festival. Tickets are here.

CASTING invites a small audience of up to 12 participants to see whether they have that star power it takes to book the big gig.

Absurd and poignant, CASTING is an intimate, immersive experience by Koryn Wicks that invites attendees to explore the choices we make when we want to stand out and those we make when we want to connect. The experience combines theater, dance and  interactive sound and video design.

“Dancer, choreographer, and multimedia artist Koryn Wicks and her team leverage the bizarre particulars of auditioning resulting in an experience full of humor, heart, and catharsis.” – Laura Hess, No Proscenium

A FEW OTHER THINGS WE LOVE THIS FALL

Experience adventurous performance with LAX Festival Vol. 10

‘Tis the season to take in the incredible artistic ecosystem of Los Angeles. If you have been looking to expand your mind and re-up your inspiration, take your pick of the incredible offerings Los Angeles Performance Practice has curated this fall.

“Since its inception in 2013, the LAX Festival has illuminated the creative spirit of Los Angeles, highlighting the city’s most innovative artists and independent companies. Over the years, the festival has fostered a powerful platform for ongoing artistic exchange and collaboration. Each edition encourages artists, curators, and organizations to partake in performance presentations, thought-provoking dialogues, and creative encounters aimed at nurturing mutual exploration and long-lasting connections.”

Get the giggles and the chills with Finding Pattersby

Is it a blazingly accurate satire of true-crime podcasts? A smirking purple prose parody of mega-pop paperback thrillers? Is it simultaneously legit spooky and legit clever? Is it an absurdist story puzzle with russian nesting doll vibes? Yes to all.

"Finding Pattersby is a weirdo mystery about a messy ex-ghostwriter who uses his investigation of a legendary, missing thriller author to work through some stuff. Also the ghostwriter's a liar.”

An enormous wooden troll sculpture in the woods

Take in some serious nature whimsy with Thomas Dambo TROLLS: Save the Humans.

Sometimes you just need to get outside and run into giant trolls.

"If you felt the Earth shaking or heard rumbling near South Coast Botanic Garden, don’t worry – it was just the trolls arriving. Thomas Dambo TROLLS: Save the Humans is having its West Coast premiere at the Garden featuring the acclaimed artist’s signature folklore-inspired troll sculptures built from reclaimed materials.  These six larger-than-life trolls are meeting here in our 87 acres to try to help us humans out. You see, hundreds of trolls came together at “Trolliefolkyfest” to discuss their favorite topic – us humans. While they know we mean well, we keep failing them by making questionable choices, like cutting down forests, emptying rivers, and putting humans – and them – in danger.  While most of the trolls think we are past saving, these SIX think they can help us."

Thanks for reading

We hope to see you all soon, but in the meantime: give someone a compliment, make some weird art, listen to a whole album, and stay hydrated.
