In June, the VA held its FY26 IT Advanced Planning Brief to Industry. It is the closest thing the department gives you to a look at its own hand: the requirements coming, who owns them, and roughly when.

I pulled the whole brief apart this week. Here is what came out of it.

The acquisition org chart. Not the political leadership, the people who actually run the buys. All twelve Technology Acquisition Center procurement services, each with its director and its contracting officers by name, plus the OIT delivery side, the eight deputy CIOs, and the mission challenge each one owns. If you are calling into the VA, these are the names.

The recompete board. EDGE, the Cloud Broker, ERP, HTMSS, CSOC, TSS 3.0, OMEGA, and the app-hosting buy, each mapped to the vehicle it actually rides now that T4NG expired into T4NG2 and SEWP VI is coming online, and the named incumbent to target if you are building a team.

Eight new VA entries in the Contract Tracker. The billion-dollar plays first, then the recompetes where an incumbent is sitting on the work and a challenger has an opening.

One line from the brief is worth carrying with you either way. The VA's own OIT deputy said it out loud at an industry day: incumbency is not a guarantee. Every requirement on this board is genuinely open.
