SEATBELTS - Too Good, Too Bad - COWBOY BEBOP (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), 1998
While I tried to rack my brain for a different band that achieves an upbeat sounding bebop/jazz instrumental for the background of the episode, it always came back to SEATBELTS. Too Good, Too Bad is actually one of the first 3 songs from that album that I listened to religiously back in 2021, because that’s when I found Michael Reeves’ youtube channel and discovered not only low-fi stuff from his background music, but also the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. I now own that album on vinyl.

This one was annoying because it was just a press release, so I had to use old speech footage of RFK Jr. to throw up on the green screen behind me. Also, I couldn’t figure out if it was appropriate to call RFK a “vape fiend,” because I’ve discovered my audience is mostly made up middle-aged women, as of now.

I still can’t believe that this actually happened. It’s the most obvious case of “oops, you caught us…uh, yeah, it was an accident.” In my personal opinion, it was not, in fact, an accident. It was an opportunity to test the waters. And this time, we noticed, and there enough of a response that there was backpedaling. Who knows what will happen next time.
Behind The Scenes:
There was a full 4th story that I even recorded that didn’t make the cut! It was about South Park and Kristi Noem. I was disappointed it didn’t fit, but I spent 3 full days trying to find an appropriate joke for the situation and I don’t think I ever fully got there. Perhaps it is best left on the cutting room floor.
Here’s a fun tidbit: the wire to my lav mic ran down my shirt and my pants, because ultimately it looked best. But man, was it inconvenient. My MacBook was sitting about a foot away from my feet, open with Audacity recording. I do have a bluetooth receiver, but it’s somewhere in my room, and I am yet to find it. When I do, I will be very glad, because I won’t have to carry my laptop next to my ankle when I check my phone, in order to prevent the recording from stopping if I am too far away from it and accidentally yank the mic plug out.
