Minimalissimo Weekly Edit
Letter Nº24
Hello. I hope all is well with you. This might be a week where design is the last thing you want to be thinking about. And that's totally fine. You can always circle back to this email later. It's certainly an important time and I hope we can all come together to make a positive change, if even in the simple form of conversation. With that said, you're always welcome to email me.
Our features over the past week include a focus on architecture, interior design, and the impact of renovation—exemplified by the masters of Scandinavian minimalism, Norm Architects. We also visit a striking monolithic residence in Spain, and for our featured mood of the week we pay tribute to the coffee ritual and being present in the moment. Have a read, take it slow, and enjoy your Sunday.
—Carl Barenbrug, Creative Director
Features
Apartment S
There is nothing quite like a clean slate. To begin again and do things better. To review, declutter, and redesign. This is the approach taken by French architects, Heros, when they tackled a fairly modest 93 square-metre apartment in Paris, France.
Village School House
Norm Architect's latest dwelling embodies the firm's commitment to restraint and refinement. Situated in a renovated school house, the design nods to traditional Scandinavian design while retaining the modern minimalist aesthetic Norm is known for.
Costa Brava House
A white minimal monolith set on a plateau above a steeply sloping site on the Costa Brava, Spain. This elegant retreat, designed by Sydney-based studio Mathieson Architects, offers a dramatic landscape view and it looks like a frame for the green of the local pine trees and the blue of the sky.
