Minimalissimo Weekly Edit

Minimalissimo in Design

Hello. I hope you've had a good week. This might be surprising to most of you, but at the beginning of the year, alongside the launch of the then new Minimalissimo website, I decided to delete all subscribers we had on file and start a brand new newsletter from the ground up. This wasn't a GDPR incentive. It was an incentive driven by discovering genuine interest in what we publish. People can be subbed to newsletters for years and not read anything. So I wanted to reset, invite readers like you who are interested in what we are doing now, and make your subscription more intentional. Needless to say, this newsletter is only going out to a small number of people, but I actually love that. I am not interested in emailing 50k+ people. That's not a community. That's a crowd where the chance of having a meaningful conversation is almost zero. What I am essentially trying to say is that if you do want to engage in a conversation with us, you will be heard. You're not speaking into an abyss.

Our features over the past week include a visit to Melbourne to admire the material beauty of the Malvern Apartments by Conrad Architects. We stop by Rome to enter a blissful and almost surreal penthouse that is all about perspective and composition by Giorgio Rava. And we enjoy a mix of cultural design styles in the stunning Guest House in Hudson Woods by Magdalena Keck. In our featured mood, we find a sense of escapism and solitude through design. Have a read, take it slow, and enjoy your Sunday.

The lovely Guest House in Hudson Woods by Magdalena Keck combines elements of three design styles for the perfect getaway in a scenic area of upstate New York. American ranch, Scandinavian mid-century, and Japanese design meet in this dwelling that feels as inspired by its influences as it does a modern classic.

Ella Armchair

Brazil may not be as widely recognised as other parts of the world as producers of minimalist design, yet we are beginning to see a wave of pared down, reductive designs—in architecture, furniture, and homewares—that encompass simplicity and essentialism. A perfect example of this is Jader Almeida's stylish, sophisticated, and timeless Ella Armchair.
