MINIMALISSIMO EDITED
What's happening?
Hello. It's been a quiet week around here simply focusing on research and curation. Projects are on pause and I'm just immersing myself in art and design. It's not a bad place to be. Also, to offset the carbon emissions of this newsletter, I will plant a tree (or rather donate to make it happen) for every issue through One Planted Tree. They're a charity that plants a tree for every dollar donated, and they've planted over 40 million trees in more than 43 countries across the globe since 2014. My donations are focused within the UK for now, but I might spread this out later. It's a small gesture, but a good one. Now let's dive into some recent features.

Features
MEDIATION HOUSE
The Japanese garden as a place for meditation for a house on a complex terrain. This is the premiss for Babayants Architects' minimal meditation house located in Moscow, Russia. The architecture studio seeks to find a place of harmony and peace in chaotic life with every project they undertake, striving for what they like to call cozy minimalism. Although cozy might not be the first word that springs to mind for this home, it is a quiet design that instils serenity and relaxation.
LAVA ROCK ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSER
Conceived by Brooklyn, New York-based design studio, Walden, this handpicked lava rock suspended on an anodised aluminium base is designed to diffuse essential oil. A juxtaposition of materials that beautifully contrasts the sleek precision of the simple base with the rawness of the lava rock.
SOFT BRICK SOFA
Renowned Japanese studio Nendo, led by Oki Sato, has designed the Soft Brick sofa with cuboid cushions stacked in staggered layers, resulting in a playful, modular, and minimal piece of furniture that has an almost Tetris feel to it.
JAPANESE APPLIED DESIGN
Every country produces exceptional designers while some countries offer particular approaches to design with renowned craftsmanship and special materials. As part of our applied design series, we look at a selection of Japanese-inspired works spanning a range of topics within the spectrum of minimalism.
