MINIMALISSIMO EDITED

Hello tasteful people. Carl here. I recently came across a comment online about a newly unveiled camera design (see below). It read: “If Apple were to make a camera, this is sorta what it would probably look like.”
I find that kind of flippant remark a bit frustrating. Apple has certainly built a reputation for great minimal design over the past 25 years, but let’s be honest: their innovation in hardware design has hit a wall in recent years. Not that it matters much to the general consumer—Apple continues to dominate in sales—but its once-elevated design doesn’t feel quite as… well… elevated. At least to me. We probably know why, but let’s move past that.
If the leaked design of the iPhone 17 is anything to go by, things aren’t improving. So when I see a another company produce an exceptional piece of minimal hardware, I feel it should stand on its own—praised on its own merits, without conglomerates muddying the conversation.
What do you think? If your work were compared to a company like Apple, would you feel honored? Unbothered? Or irate?
