When You Are Feeling Tender
a recipe for comfort

Hello there! Happy Tuesday ☺
Before I dive into my main topic today, guess what?!?
My lifelong sister-friend WROTE A BOOK AND IT RELEASES TODAY!!!

I may be totally biased AND mentioned numerous times in the book, but for real, I love this book. I love what Suzanne is doing to help normalize the concept of moms living without alcohol, and I love that both of us quit drinking almost 6 years ago. You can buy the book or request that your library order it AND you can go see Suzanne one of the tour dates! And remember, I’ll be her conversation partner at the Madison stop on October 4th!

Nurturing Our Tender Selves
When I returned to work last week after being at my aunt’s house for several days, a coworker asked how I was doing. I thought, and then replied, “I’m really doing okay, just feeling a little tender right now.”

I have come to love this description for how I feel when tears are near the surface for any reason - overtiredness, overwhelm, grief, stress, etc. When I need extra care, extra sleep, extra nurturing, but still am attempting to carry on with life.
In our adult lives, much of that extra nurturing needs to be self-driven, given that the world is still turning for most everyone else, and so many people don’t take the time to recognize that life is hard for others at any given moment.
As I grow older, I have come to recognize my recipe for nurturing myself, and have found it easier to wrap myself in care immediately. While we all have different ingredients, I would love share what has been working for me.
