Well Worth the Time

a new dress and a dreamy May release

Well hello there, happy Tuesday!

I was gifted an extra day at home this weekend because of our winter storm that actually turned out to be way-over-hyped and a pretty weak attempt at a blizzard, but still kept me safe at home and happy from Saturday evening through Monday evening. No complaints from me!

With that extra time, I was able to complete a sewing project that I have been dreaming about since Christmas break ~ and I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

see how happy this dress makes me?

I made the Matchy Matchy Horizon Day Dress out of Robert Kaufman Brussels Washer Linen Blend (colors: natural, mist, dark purple and pink clay) and took meticulous care with planning the color layout (the back is a different pattern!), reinforcing the seams a few extra times, unpicking and resewing visible seams that I wasn’t happy with, and just in general putting so much time and love into a garment that makes me ridiculously happy. You can’t see it here, but it has contrasting bias tape and a Sewn Slow tag in the neckline ~ these details make such a difference to me.

It’s roomy-by-design and flowy and patchwork and durable and feels luxuriously soft and heavy … and has POCKETS. I can’t wait to make more of these dresses, definitely some with short sleeves as well!

Side note: the mom of one of my childhood best friends exclusively wore dresses shaped just like this one, and I always thought it was funny that she never wore pants or anything fitted … but now that I too am in middle age, I realize that she is a freaking genius and is now my hero.

And now, the May release I devoured last week that immediately made me start planning a dream vacation …
