Reading for the Spring Season

my spring reading challenge titles for 2025

I believe I have mentioned this (many times) before, but spring is really truly my favorite season. More daylight! The birds are back! Moderate temperatures! I can wear dresses again! Spring in Wisconsin is always a surprise, and I’m guessing that’s part of what makes me love it ~ it’s unpredictable and such a damn treat when it comes through for me as advertised.

I told you last month that I would be reading along with a fun spring reading challenge, and I jumped right in after telling you about it. I ended up reading all four books quite quickly, and I also have some tried and true bonus titles for you that fit each of the categories.

The truth is, I didn’t necessarily LOVE every one of the books I read for the challenge, but I’m totally fine with that ~ the hunt is part of the fun! I also challenged myself to find books that were available via audio on my library’s Hoopla collection, which limited my options a bit.

Here is what I selected this year:

Book covers for Happy Trail and Southern by Design

Birds or Bees

Happy Trail by Daisy Prescott ~ This romance story is part of the Winston Brothers universe created by Penny Reid, and I really loved revisiting this world. This particular title is set on the Appalachian Trail and meets the birds criteria for the challenge, as both of the love interests are major bird watchers!

A bonus title I loved: Other Birds by Sara Addison Allen

Home Renovation

Southern by Design by Grace Helena Walz ~ I actually wish this one focused a lot more on home renovation than it did, but it definitely met the challenge criteria. I loved the Charleston, SC setting!

A bonus title I loved: The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews

Book covers for Spring Fever and The Gardener's Plot

Spring Vibes

Spring Fever by Mary Kay Andrews ~ Just the old school sweet, simple Southern family drama / romance I can count on from MKA! This 2012 novel had been on my TBR forever, and I’m happy I was finally able to check it off. So atmospheric, and while it wasn’t really about spring itself at all, the title and cover kept the season at the front of my time while I was reading!

A bonus title I enjoyed: Spring Fling by Annie England Noblin

Gardens

The Gardener’s Plot by Deborah J. Benoit ~ Definitely my least favorite of this group, which I was sad about. It seemed like the perfect cozy-ish mystery for the category and the cover is just perfect. Alas, it really didn’t work for me.

A bonus title I loved: The Garden of Small Beginnings by Abbi Waxman

Want even more spring reads? Here is what I read for the challenge last year!
