Making Peace with Home

on house shame and a book that soothed my soul

Well hello there, happy Tuesday!

I have a special nonfiction book to share with you today, one that is near and dear to my heart.

I learned about this book via Laura Fenton’s newsletter ~ her piece titled Have You Ever Felt House Shame? hit my inbox at the peak of my end-of-winter spiral about how much I hate our bathroom and can’t BEAR to be a person who lives in a house with a bathroom like ours and how can I possibly EXIST with the shame of it.

Backstory: We live in a house that was originally built sometime in the late 1800s but was also added on to over the decades and renovated inexpertly multiple times by previous owners. We bought the house as-is at an auction in 2005 (with a required 30 day close!) and have done NO renovation to the house except the super big, expensive, and mandatory stuff: a new roof, new septic system, new pipes under the shower/tub, added an outdoor wood burner and took down a decrepit barn.
