Beachmaxxing and Breakfast Treats
the family island trip of my dreams

Well hello there, I’m BACK!
When I tell people I didn’t travel as a child, oftentimes they think that means just not overseas or not lavishly, but no. What I mean is that travel for travel’s sake was simply not a part of our life at ALL when I was growing up.
Then I was barely scraping by and working my ass off and living carelessly on credit cards and student loans in college and then I squeezed in a few trips to Atlanta and New Orleans in my 20’s (paid for with credit cards) to visit friends, and then … well, I was in grad school for a decade and started having babies and was buried in student debt, a mortgage, and all of that earlier credit card spending.
And that, my friends, is partially why my very first actual family spring break trip occurred LAST WEEK at age 45. The other big parts are WORK SCHEDULES and THREE DOGS. But you know what? I’m not even kind of sad it took this long!
Maybe I loved it all even more because travel for travel’s sake is relatively new to me as a full grown adult, because seeing the ocean for just the 5th time in my entire life is still a goddamn miracle.
Maybe I’m LUCKY I didn’t travel my whole life because it makes it more precious now? I have pondered this at length, and all I know for sure is that travel is an incredible financial luxury AND I will go without so many other things to be able to keep doing it in some form.
