A Few Things to Tell You Vol. 23

a Me-Made week and two propulsive reads

Well hello there, happy Saturday!

We have a big snow storm predicted for later this weekend, so I’m getting ready to hibernate again and finish a dress that I have been slowly working on. Oh, and today I’m attending a performance of Wizard the Oz at my school before the snow hits ~ I’m excited to see my students perform!

A Me-Made Week

In the name of entertaining myself, I deemed this past week a Me-Made week and set a goal of wearing at least one item of clothing made by ME every day to work.

Here’s what I wore:

Monday: I finally wore the vintage-Betsey Johnson-skull-sheet Donny shirt that I made in January and didn’t love. But, I wore it over a black tank dress and it worked and got compliments. However, that collar still annoyed me all day as I was taking my denim jacket on and off!

Tuesday: the bird skirt I made this fall + Smartwool tee and vintage gray denim jacket. Hooray for it being warm enough for a bit to wear a skirt without leggings!

Wednesday: the newest longer Marlo cardigan I just finished last weekend ~ made out of a really thick black waffle knit that was excruciatingly hard to work with ~ with a union tee and jeans. Lesson learned to be very (very) patient if ever sewing with that fabric again, but yay for a new black top layer!

Thursday: this was a champion-level Me-Made outfit: my mustard Recess Play pants, gray linen blend Ogden ami, and shorter cream Marlo cardigan. A WHOLE OUTFIT MADE BY ME over the past few months!

Friday: my navy-ish linen blend Free Range Slacks that I have worn SO often since making them in February, plus a school hoodie.

I love challenging myself to exercises like this because it makes just getting dressed a creatively satisfying activity, and also helps me think deeply about what I need more of in my wardrobe and how I want to make it. Also, I MADE MY OWN FREAKING CLOTHES!?! Still think it’s wild how far I’ve come since September.

The Best Thing I Read this Week

This infuriating and enlightening piece from The Pudding about women’s clothing sizes made me even more determined to sew most of my clothes going forward.

Some Recent Reads

And now some BOOKS! I inhaled both of these titles last weekend.

The Night We Met by Abby Jimenez comes out in a few weeks and will surely be another bestseller for this hit author. I appreciated a lot about this emotionally-heavy and complex romance, but have a few issues with the relationship. I always count on Jimenez to write great Minnesota stories, though, so I’ll surely come back for whatever is next!

I just ADORED Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart, which I consumed in its entirety during the first half of the day last Sunday. Leisurely coffee reading, a luxurious LONG walk with the pups in the warm sun, so much baking ~ I was able to just soak up this book switching between print and audio seamlessly thanks to Spotify page match. This memoir of one magical summer in New York City in 1945 just sparkles and made me so very happy.

I hope you all have a weekend with as much rest and creativity as you can fit in, and we shall see if we actually get the 2 feet of snow they’re predicting for us!

Thanks for stopping by!
