Understanding Our Resources
You are richer than you think
We often feel stuck when considering new projects because we think we don't have enough resources. Usually, this means we are looking at our bank account or our schedule, and seeing a zero.
But we define "resources" too narrowly.
When we fixate on our lack of money or time, we disregard the vast array of assets we already possess — assets we can continue to grow and tap into right now.
Our real inventory is a combination of:
- Biological Assets: Our physical and mental health, and our daily energy levels.
- Social Assets: Our friends, contacts, and mentors.
- Intellectual Assets: Our skills, knowledge, and access to learning resources.
- Material Assets: Our tools, technology, and financial wealth.
- Situational Assets: Our physical environment, our location, and the time we control.
We are rarely running on empty. We are just looking in the wrong tank.
When we stop focusing on the one resource we lack (usually cash or free hours) and start deploying the ones we have (energy, skills, connections), we can:
- always find new ways to move forward, and
- seize opportunities we would otherwise pass on.
Which part of your "Hidden Inventory" have you been ignoring lately?
Abundantly,
