Service > Self-Centeredness

The antidote to overthinking

We spend a lot of time trapped in our own heads. We worry about our performance and our status. We ask questions like: "Am I good enough? What will they think of me? Will I fail?"

This is a quiet form of self-centeredness. It creates anxiety and stops us from taking action.

There is a direct way out of this trap: Service.

The easiest way to escape our own heads is to focus on being of value to someone else. When we shift our attention from protecting ourselves to collaborating with others, our insecurities lose their power.

Self-centeredness looks in the mirror and asks: "How do I look?"

Service looks out the window and asks: "How can I lift up the world out there?"

When we make this shift, we stop trying to impress people and start being useful. Our work becomes less about our own ego and more about the impact we can make on the world around us.

We don't need to be perfect to be impactful. We have everything to start serving right now.

What's one community or person you can be of service to today, using the skills you already possess?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

In service,
