Necessary vs. Sufficient
The trap of over-planning
We love to prepare. We buy all kinds of gear, read books, and make our best plans. We think we need just one more course, one more tool, or one more day of research before we are ready. This feels like productive work, and it feels safe.
But this is a trap: we confuse what is necessary with what is sufficient.
- Necessary: Buying running shoes, trackers, and outfits. (This, we think, makes running possible).
- Sufficient: Stepping out the door. (This is what makes running real).
We hide behind the necessary steps. We think if we have enough necessary things, good results will happen automatically. But they won't.
We can have the perfect shoes, the best weather, and the right playlist, but still stay on our couch.
When we mistake over-planning for action, we miss this important truth: We already have enough to start right now.
The shoes don't count. The running does :)
What necessary task are you doing today just to feel busy? What sufficient action are you avoiding because it feels risky?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Sufficiently,
