Get To > Have To: A Strong Shift
Seeing the opportunity, not the chore.
"I have to do this."
Something we commonly say to ourselves when faced with an undesirable task. It's easy to fall into that mindset. Life seems full of obligations.
What if we flipped it over?
Instead of "have to," how about saying "get to?"
For example:
"I have to go to work" becomes "I get to contribute and use my skills."
"I have to do laundry" becomes "I get to care for my things."
It's a small change, but it shifts our entire view. "Have to" feels heavy, like a burden. "Get to" reminds us we're alive, we have choices, we have opportunities.
This lets us find the tiny bit of good in every task and responsibility. It's about seizing the chance to act, to participate, to be here.
Can you notice one "have to" thought this week, then reframe it as a "get to"?
