Feedforward: Learning from Our Future
Learning with intent
We usually treat learning as something that happens after the fact. We try things, we stumble, and we learn from the feedback.
This is valuable. But it is slow. It requires us to make the mistake before we get the lesson.
There is a more effective way: Feedforward.
Feedback looks back at what we did. Feedforward looks ahead at what we want to be able to do. It connects our present actions to specific future skills.
We don't need to wait for experience to teach us. We can let our future self guide us right now.
We can point our question-asking skills at ourselves:
In 6 months, what do I want to be able to do better than I can today?
What actions do I need to take today to get there?
What actions do I need to stop today to make that possible?
When we do this, our daily choices stop being isolated tasks. They become the building blocks of that future person.
What is one thing you can start doing today that your future self will thank you for?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Forward,
