Continuity > Clean Slate
Start 2026 by continuing, not restarting
Happy New Year!
The new year brings a seductive promise: the Clean Slate.
We convince ourselves that the turning of the calendar wipes away our past procrastination and friction. We imagine we will start today as a completely new version of ourselves.
But wiping that slate clean actually means discarding valuable data.
We are the same people today that we were last Sunday. That isn't a failure. It’s a reality we can work with.
What if we prioritized Continuity instead?
Continuity means working with the momentum we have already built: our struggles, our wins, and our habits.
When we build on Continuity, we:
- Keep the lessons: We don't ignore why we got stuck last month. We use that information to adjust our course.
- Maintain momentum: We don't need to generate energy from zero. We simply steer the boat we are already sailing.
- Focus on evolution: A "New You" is a fragile concept. An "Evolving You" is resilient and can survive a bad day.
What is one thing you would choose to continue this week, rather than trying to start from scratch?
In motion,
