THIS SATURDAY, DA VINCI’S DEMONS season two begins on STARZ. I bring this up because I was fortunate enough to get to contribute some to this season; David Goyer, the show’s creator, and I cowrote the SIXTH episode of the season (which if my math is right [ha ha] should air APRIL 26th). As fond as I was of the first season, I feel like HERE, the season two premiere, is where the rubber really hits the road and the full scope and scale of the show unfolds… anyway it was a thrill to be a part of, and I’ve heard all kinds of whispers about ‘our’ episode and how it turned out. If you watch the season two trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFpk2zzqCfU) you’ll catch a lot of cool glimpses of what’s to come. I promise to annoy the shit out of you with reminders in the lead up to 206.

HAWKEYE 20, being drawn now, deals with the fallout of the clown’s assault on the building and on the brothers Barton -- namely to the hearing loss Clint has, once again, suffered. I’ve referred to it as “the sign language issue” in the past and while not entirely in American Sign Language… it’s a major part of the story. I became fascinated by ASL while teaching the kids to sign, thanks to Rachel Coleman and her work, available at http://signingtime.com. Sign is a great early language skill (kids, deaf and hearing, can sign long before they can speak) and, it occurred to me one night watching a DVD of BABY SINGING TIME, that… well, like comics, sign is a purely visual language.
Anyway, Rachel (and Leah, her daughter, who I’ve watched grow up in the SIGNING TIME videos and was the impetus for their creation) are consulting with me on the issue and it was an honor and a privilege. More as the issue gets closer to release, I’m sure. I’ve been heading here with Clint since day one, basically, and can’t wait for the thing to get out into the world… in the meantime, check out Rachel’s site and work (especially if you’ve got an infant in your life). ASL changed our lives for the better and I love that I’m getting a chance to use it in comics.

NEXT WEEK! AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #25 -- the wrap up to the Forgeries of Jealousy arc co-written with Warren Ellis as well as LEGENDS OF RED SONJA #5, featuring a short story that is my first collaboration with BITCH PLANET artist Valentine De Landro. We had a loooooot of fun with it. Big thanks to Gail Simone for inviting us to play in her sandbox.
CAPTAIN MARVEL 2: THE WINTER SOLDIER was FANTASTIC. We got dressed up all fancy like, too. Got to meet Kris Anka for the first time! He wore a velvet jacket and pulled it off like a boss. Also got to schmooze with Gerry Conway a bit and meet his daughter. I think I managed to play it cool. If not, I don't want to know. Brubaker ended the night on the perfect note, buying us all late-night sausages and some of the best fries I've ever had in my life. Wish I could remember the name of that place.
This SATURDAY the 22nd, I'm doing a SKYPE store appearance at Keith's Comics as part of their LADIES NIGHT event.
