North Carolina Bound

HeroesCon Bound!

See you there, ?

We're bound for Charlotte, North Carolina to attend Heroes Con -- one of our favorite conventions -- so things are a little hectic. Apologies in advance for the typos that will inevitably make it though.

On the con floor, you'll find Fraction at A-1802 and Kelly Sue at A-1803. (And Chip Zdarsky at A-1801, if you're into that kind of thing.)

Here are some frequently-asked con questions:

Q: How many books will you sign?
A: We don't put a limit on it. How many do you feel like carrying around with you all day? Basically, if you bought it and brought it, it seems the least we can do to sign it. Couple of things you can do to make our lives easier, though: 1) take your books out of the plastic bags BEFORE you get to the front of the line pleeeeeease; and 2) if you have more than, say, 30 books or so, let us sign those 30, then go to the back of the line. Feel free to do that as many times as you like.

Q: What do you charge for autographs?
A: Nothing. Nada. Zilch. (Unless you're a company and you want to send hundreds of comics to our house for us to sign. Then we're going to charge. But for readers? Zip.)

Q: What if I didn't bring anything? Can I still say hello? Can we take a photo together?
A: At HeroesCon we will have for sale, but it's really okay if you just want to say hello and not make a purchase. (Honest!) And yes, of course, we'll take pictures with you. Kelly Sue will probably make you duck face. Start getting used to the idea.

Q: Can we interview you for our podcast/website/newsletter/thesis?
A: Maaaaaaaaybe...? Here's the deal: we used to try and schedule interviews and whatnot during the con and it... it never worked. What we've settled on is an imperfect system as well, but it's less frustrating for us than trying to keep an appointment schedule during a con. So here it is: drop by the table, come to the front of the line and let us know you're there for an interview. If the line is not ridiculous, we'll finish up where we're at and take a couple of minutes to talk to you/your camera. Like, 5 minutes. MAX. Then we need to get back to the folks who have been waiting in line. That's the best we can do. Priority has to be the line, okay? Thanks for understanding. (If the line IS long, we may not be able to accommodate you at all. We really and truly do appreciate your interest, but we're making NO PROMISES, okay? Our lines tend to move slowly because we chat with everyone who comes through.)

Hi I'm on a plane typing on kelly sue's tiny little Doozer computer and it makes me feel like i got crypt keeper hands so this is gonna be short.

1. SEX CRIMINALS #6 is out tomorrow. i am happy i am going to be in the world living a life and not sitting near a computer. it is the most nakedly autobiographical thing i've ever written and i am terrified for any number of reasons. this is all i'm going to say about the writing of the thing. chip's work is stellar, the letters are fun, funny, sexy, sweet, sad, mad, and, i hope, engaging; our ask a sex educator feature begins; even fan art including one by... well, you wouldn't believe me if I told you.

2. Christian Ward and I have begun the Real Work on ODY-C this week, including a plan for the first issue so audacious, phone calls had to be made and People Consulted. More very soon. Starts in November.

3. SATELLITE SAM #10 is now in the hands of Howard Chaykin. It will be 26 pages long and wrap up the second storyline.

4. No, I don't know when you-know-what is coming out. They're being worked on. Sorry.

5. At HeroesCon I'll have: HAWKEYE OMNIBUS 1 hardcovers, HAWKEYE trades, CASANOVA v 1-3 trades, the FANTASTIC FOUR/FF suite of trades, the SEX CRIMINALS convention-exclusive hardcover, and SATELLITE SAM v1 along with the subsequent issues and the Tijuana Bible. We'll have SEX CRIMINALS prints and merch too, including CUMWORLD-branded HAND SANITIZER. It's fun typing that in all caps.

OK I have to go figure something out about the Trojan Horse now. BYE.

Last week is a bit of a blur, so not much to report. Danielle is working on a schedule for BITCH PLANET, I'm scripting it, working on PROMETHEUS: OMEGA, reading for PRETTY DEADLY VOLUME 2 and scripting CAPTAIN MARVEL 9. And I have a prose piece due to Laurenn McCubbin tomorrow. (I haven't forgotten, Laurenn.)

I've got to cut this short and hand the keyboard over to Fraction while my laptop still has a charge. More next time.

Oh! Daily Dot put this piece up today -- I really appreciate the work that Michelle put into it and I loved her intro.

(I got the NOLITE shirt up there at Look Human.)

Saturday

  • VALKYRIE BREAKFAST, 8:00 am
If you are a lady and you work in and/or own a comic book shop, you are eligible to join The Valkyries. And if you are a Valkyrie, you should totally come have breakfast with me and muh girls. Check the Valkyrie Facebook page for location. Or stop by my table on Friday.

Henry Leo: I'm going to smother you... WITH KISSES!
Matt: I'm going to smush you... WITH HUGS!
Tallulah: I'm going to hit you in the face... WITH MY FIST!

Henry Leo: You want to know something weird about STAR WARS?
Matt: What?
Henry Leo: Nobody ever goes to the potty.

728 of you ended up taking the newsletter survey -- thank you for that!

How frequently would you like to receive the Milkfed Newsletter?

  • Weekly won by a large margin.

If the newletter were weekly, what day of the week would you prefer?

  • Tuesday was the clear winner here.

What content do you want? (Choose as many as you like.)

  • Release Calendar and Process Notes were your clear priorities from the multiple choice listings.

  • The write-ins were the most fun part of the survey; y'all are nuts. We're going to try and include at least one special request a week, based on how much time we've got and what amuses us. (What's a "dik pix"? Is that like a pixie stick?)

Here's the first special request:

"I totally think you guys should kick this newsletter old school family style and do 'two truths and a lie' at the end in that endearingly annoying way extended family members do like."

Okay.

  1. "Tallulah Louise" was almost named "Tallulah Snowblood."

  2. Henry Leo was nearly "Huckleberry."

  3. Fraction got his nickname from Ed Brubaker, who was a high school buddy.

If you think you know which is the lie, email the number to masterminds@milkfed.us and we'll pick a winner from among the correct answers.
