Hi Friends,

Denise Espinoza here! Yr Shark Mom is crazy busy this week so I’m here to help. That’s just what a Majordomo does… or so they tell me. I dunno, I’m new at this *shrug emoji*

Anyway, here’s the news!

The Marvels

The reviews are in! And if you aren’t already excited about The Marvels coming to theaters this Friday, maybe check out this review by Deadline that says

“The Marvels stands as a testament to the possibility of character-driven stories within the grand tapestry of the MCU. DaCosta’s vision, fortified by compelling performances and thoughtful storytelling, delivers a superhero film that pulsates with life, energy and, most important, a sense of purpose. It’s a reminder that in the right hands, even the most expansive universes can be distilled into stories that resonate on the most human of levels.”

Or this review from Screen Rant that calls it “an absolute blast to watch on the big screen.” They also said

“The Marvels hits the ground running, plunging audiences into the world of the MCU while making sure not to leave any viewer behind, even those who may be new to the universe.”

Translation: No prep work required.

BUT! If homework is your jam, or you just want some primers before seeing everything on the big screen, you could check out Captain Marvel #9 (2014) which covers all of the musical planet Aladna stuff, Captain Marvel Vol. 7 Issue 7 and Issue 8, which spend time with Carol and Monica. Or, try Captain Marvel Vol 8 Issue 7, and Issue 8 and get to know the flerkin.

You should be able to pick all of these up at your local comic book shop. But, if you have trouble finding any of them, they’re all included in the CAPTAIN MARVEL BY KELLY SUE DECONNICK OMNIBUS.

There’s also The 'Women of Marvel' Guide to Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel which dives into the history of the comic, Carol’s journey, and her jump to the big screen. Plus, the accompanying Captain Marvel episode of the Women of Marvel Podcast that includes interviews with Brie Larson, Alison Baker (an early member of the Carol Corps), Ann Nocenti, and Gilly Segal, and of course - Kelly Sue DeConnick.

However you like to get ready for a new movie, let’s make Shark Mom proud by showing up en masse for opening weekend! I’ll buy the popcorn ◕‿↼)

Last but not least, the Final Trailer is out now. It’s a new tone/perspective from previous trailers:

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

Next Friday, November 17th is the premier of Matt Fraction’s latest project Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on AppleTV+.

There’s a lot of good buzz about bringing Godzilla to television. If you haven’t seen it, the official trailer is so good you guys:

If you like teasers, here’s the opening scene:

And if you want to hear about it from Fraction and the cast, here’s a behind-the-scenes video:

The Verge is calling it a “compelling set of new perspectives that make a familiar story feel fresh.”

So mark your calendars for Friday, November 17th to catch Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on AppleTV+!

This and That

  • Kelly Sue & Tee & will be at Heroes Dutch Comicon along with the Entire Historia creative team!! That’s November 18th & 19th in the Netherlands. I’m excited to hear their report of the delightfully named Winkel van Sinkel restaurant not just for the food but because they have a room with a Very Appropriately Hera themed peacock room!

  • Here in the office we’ve got our eyes on this New York artbook by Natasha Stagg. Are any of you familiar with it?

  • Separating Fact from Fiction on Social Media in Times of Conflict from Bellingcat, is a great read about doing due diligence in the era of misinformation. If you’re in a hurry, here are the headlines:

    • Be Cautious

    • Think Critically

    • Check the Source

    • Remember that the Same Location Doesn’t Mean the Same Incident

    • Be Savvy to Manipulation and AI Generation

    • Be Cautious of State Actors, Which Sometimes Share Staged or Unreliable Footage

    • Know That, Sometimes, News Organizations Get it Wrong

    • Protect Your Mental Health

That’s all the news I have for you, Glow Sharks. Make sure you’re drinking your water!

Milkfed’s Resident Majordomo,
Denise

PS

Happy One Year anniversary to Awakening!
Kelly Sue says she misses everyone desperately, but especially the dancers.
It pretty amazing to realize that we are at a point in time where you can fly over Las Vegas and see a billboard for Awakening and Goose the Flerkin on The Sphere at the same time.
