Casanova: Luxuria Hardcover

HEYYYYYYYYYYYY YOOOOOOOOOOOOOU !!!

- kelly sue deconnick -

I am utterly and completely enamored of the covers coming in for Bitch Planet -- big ups to both Valentine De Landro, Rian Hughes and (on cover #3) Matt Hollingsworth. I love them so much that I couldn't stop myself from sharing this cover for Issue #3 with you. Don't post it anywhere until the previews solicits go up, okay? This is between us. If you want to share it, I'm down, but share it by forwarding the newsletter -- can we do that? Let's see.

What else. I feel a bit of a ramble coming on. Bear with me and I'll try to find a point.

Been re-reading The Power of Habit (or more accurately, listening to it on Audible when I'm driving or making dinner) so I've been in a bit of a self-examination mood. Truth be told, this sort of thing always hits me this time of year -- my favorite holiday is New Year's, not for the binge drinking, oddly enough, but for the Clean Slate of it all. I am forever starting over. I used to hate this about myself, used to see it as a constant return to the starting block, but I've noticed over the years that the starting block moves. I do get better at things. Frequently. I just seldom do it on my first try and I often backslide on one practice as I improve another. Still, at 44 I can see the net gain. I'm pretty damned close to where I want to be.

That said, I apparently need an app to remind me to take my pills and brush my teeth twice a day. Remember that part where I said I was 44? Yeah.

On major disappointment I'm contending with right now is the Avengers Half Marathon coming up NEXT WEEK. I hurt my back and fell off the training wagon and never really managed to get back on. I have legitimate excuses -- a crushing work schedule, the back injury, pain in my hip and the bottom of my foot that I kept telling myself I was going to see the doctor about... but the truth is that my husband has the SAME crushing work schedule, similar aches and pains and a week from Sunday he will be RUNNING the half marathon and I will be WALKING it. So. That is a bummer. Feels like a failure. But...

I'm learning that the real trick is to keep going. Walking a half marathon is closer to running a half marathon then never starting a half marathon. As it happens, I'm registered for the Princess Half in February. If I start now, maybe I can make that one happen. Or maybe I can run MOST of that one?

Our goal is progress, not perfection.

Speaking of the Half Marathon (and perfection for that matter), where my Carol Corps at?? MOVIE NEWS. Hooooolllleee crap, friends. I could not be more delighted. I am going to have an ulcer for three years, but I'm celebratory all the same.

If you are in Anaheim, CA next week, we're having a Carol Corps meet up the Saturday before the Marathon. Exact time still TBD, but everyone is welcome, whether you're running or cheering or neither. I believe the meeting place is tentatively the lobby of the Grand Californian in Downtown Disney. There are also a couple of events planned for Beach Ball Comics -- more info in the calendar section below.

Did I ever find a point? It's something along the lines of "keep going," I think.

THIS JUST IN: Literally just got an email with the initial orders for BITCH PLANET and !!! THEY'RE VERY GOOD!! Thank you SO MUCH. Final order cut off ("FOC") isn't until 11/17 so there's still time to pre-order if you want to check it out.

We'll be doing another marketing push next week. Keep an eye out.

Well the big LUXURIA came out even better than I imagined. Gloriously oversized. I love it. I just told Bendis now I know how he felt when all the Icon remasters of his early stuff came out. Can't wait for it to get out into the world.

Ward's drawing ODY-C #2. Chip's closing on SEXCRIMS #9. Fábio is off to the races on CASANOVA: ACEDIA #3. Next for me is SEX CRIMINALS #10 then either SATELLITE SAM #11 or ODY-C #3, depending on stuff. Chabon's first backup is in and it's off to Bá. It is bonkers. I am thrilled to no longer be the one everybody reading CASANOVA will think is the one on drugs.

Oh! And there's this goddamn Avengers half-marathon. So Kel has the Carol Corps in their own, like, cheering SECTION, so this next part is for #TeamHAWKGUY, okay? Okay.

Look: in true #TeamHAWKGUY spirit I trust that absolutely none of you will be out of bed in time to be at the starting line, let alone the finish line. That's okay. That's who you are. That's who we are. Know this: I will be out there running 13.1 miles sporting my Clint Barton best, and I will do everything I can to dumbass my way across the finish line in a time not-totally-embarrassing.

I trust I won't see you there. But I am going on a goddamn beignet-binge afterwards.
