In first year university I took a course called “listening to music.” Our instructor, an eccentric man who played the sackbut, taught us a principle I’ve never forgotten, probably because he said it so much.
Repetition breeds affection.
Yes, they play that song on the radio because people like it, but people also like it because they play it on the radio. Repetition breeds affection. Songs grow on you. So can a tough new habit (zero days), a potential slogan you’re kicking around (Murder your first born ideas), or even an annoying neighbor (Bring your adversary closer).
Interesting ideas sizzle your brain at first (You need a little friction), so give them time. But be careful what you get good at, because repetition breeds affection.
