Instagram Famous

It was the ultimate hipster joint, a pop-up restaurant in a burning building. Fans kept the worst of the smoke from our table, but it was hot, and we heard occasional crashes as parts of the roof collapsed. We giggled nervously while doing our best to enjoy overcooked, overpriced steaks. For dessert we had ice-cream. It was cooling and we gulped it down, desperate for relief from the heat. My friend wanted to take a photo for Instagram, but the plastic on her phone had melted. “No one will believe us back home,” I said, as my hair caught fire.

Upcoming Workshop

I’m very excited to be teaching an in-person workshop on microfiction at In A Land gallery in Hebden Bridge on November 1st.

It will be a playful session and I’m excited about some of the things I’ve got planned. A long time ago, Ellen de Vries and I ran The Brighton Creative Sessions. We only did five workshops, but they were pretty incredible. I want to do something as cool as that.

But also… I have a lot to say about microfiction. I think it’s the literary form most suited to our present era. I think it can be profound and beautiful. Come along and I’ll persuade you. There are 8 tickets left.
