week 13: joy
in which i puzzle it out
This week was boring, mostly because I am couch-ridden and basically immobile so I’ve just read and watched some movies and when I got bored, I decided to buy myself some jigsaw puzzles. I also bought this to do my puzzles on:
It’s a board that fits up to 1000 pieces and has four pull out drawers for sorting pieces. The joy this has brought me is ridiculously immense. It makes it so much easier to do the puzzle methodically, keeps everything neat, and I can see all the pieces. I can only do about fifteen minutes at a time because it hurts my leg to sit like that for much longer (and I can’t stand), but I’ve hit it about five times already and watching a jigsaw puzzle come together is so much fun. It also makes me feel like my brain is in action, as opposed to when I’m just sitting on the couch scrolling social media.
Also on the joy agenda this week: my tenant - who has the greenest thumb ever - bought six new plants (in addition to the ones she already planted in the front) and set them up on the breezeway as a get well present for me. It looks like an oasis out there now and I was so delighted by this gesture I cried. Talk about joy. Having someone care for you and be thoughtful toward you? Priceless.
My other joy this week was watching Shawshank Redemption for the first time. I wrote about it here:
So even though the week was boring and I didn’t go anywhere, I was able to find three pretty big joys. Keep looking, everyone. It’s there.
