putting the joy in enjoyment
some things i have been enjoying this week
I decided that on Saturdays I will do a roundup of things I enjoyed during the week. It’s both to keep check of all the happy things in my life and to share my little joys with you in hopes that you will do the same. So, my week in enjoyment:
Arizona green tea with ginseng and honey
I used to drink this a lot when I was younger and it come in a cobalt blue bottle. I recently rediscovered it and now I have a mini fridge filled with cans of Arizona green tea. Good stuff.
10,000 gecs by 100 gecs
I got this on vinyl earlier this week and have been playing it nonstop. It’s definitely not for everyone and I think most people I know reject the idea of this duo completely, but I love the silliness of it all. It’s quirky and odd and puts me in a really good mood.
Reading
I started reading again! After two plus years of no being able to concentrate enough to get past two pages of a book, I have started in on my to-read pile, which has grown into a mountain. Here’s the three I’ve started. I like to have different kinds of books available for my different moods. “Clockers” is a reread but I really don’t remember much about it except I liked it. It was 1992, please don’t expect me to remember it.
Succession
I love the way they unfolded the drama of this episode; it was slow and careful and considered, and it was revelatory without being overwrought. Succession is in its last season and I expect it’s just going to be completely bonkers from here.
Ted Lasso
I enjoy the act of watching Ted Lasso. I enjoy seeing the characters and what they are up to and how they are coping with various things. I enjoy sitting on the couch at 5am on a Wednesday and watching one of my favorite shows in the silence of the morning. But I am not enjoying this season. There’s something off about it, like it’s missing a little bit of that warmth and comfort we all got hooked on in the first season. I will keep watching, and keep hoping it ends with Ted going home to Henry.
Playoff hockey
My Islanders made the playoffs by the skin of their teeth and how they got there no longer matters. Playoffs are a fresh season and anything can happen in a seven game series. This time of year always reminds me of the Isles’ cup wins, and I would love to experience that once again. There is nothing quite like playoff hockey. Pure adrenaline.
Baseball
Baseball is back, baby! There are few things as pleasurable as watching a baseball game, especially on a weekend afternoon. Let’s hit some dingers!
Summer like weather
We had a bout of 80+ degree days here on Long Island this week. It was great to open all the doors and windows, to drive with my windows rolled down and the music blasting, to sit on my porch and read without needing a blanket. I’m not quite ready for summer yet, but this week of respite from rainy, chilly days has been spectacular.
And there you have it, the first of my weekly roundup of things that are making me happy. Please feel free to comment with what you enjoyed most this week. Let’s share the stuff the makes us happy!
