switching to a paid subscription and i'm nervous as hell about it
I want to tell you about a change in the newsletter, and why I am making this change.
I’ve been doing this two years. I lost count of how many posts I have written. What started out as a way to serialize my novel morphed into a newsletter and I can’t tell you how much I enjoy doing this writing for you. For us.
I average three posts a week. That’s 12 posts a month. That’s a lot of writing, a lot of time. I put my all into every newsletter whether I’m bringing you a deeply personal essay, or just writing about my favorite band. I give you my best writing, because that’s what you deserve when you sign up for a newsletter.
To cut to the chase, this is going to become a mostly paid newsletter. It will only be $5.00 a month. I think that’s a small enough amount to not break your bank, and I promise to always make it worth it. This is a leap of faith on my part, and I recognize that it’s also a leap of faith on your part to sign up for this. I hope at this point you believe that I can provide content worth five bucks a month.
It’s not easy to ask for money. I’ve been tossing this around in my head for weeks and I’ve hesitated because I was embarrassed to ask to be paid for my writing. Then I took a look at all the newsletters I pay for and thought, why not me? I work hard to put this newsletter out. I put a lot of effort into it. Why not, indeed.
I will be putting out some free newsletters for people who choose to stay on that free option. Everyone else will get the usual amount of posts. I understand if you’re put off by this and if you want to unsubscribe, I get it. If you want to stay on the free, I get that, too. And if you choose to pay for the newsletter, I appreciate that very much.
I do hope you’ll stay.
