Micael Widell Newsletter #34: Best Photography Youtubers according to My Followers

Captain's log

It's getting really tiring for me, and probably for you as well, with this intro section so often being about my children being sick and home from preschool, and therefore me not being able to work very much. But that's kind of what happened during January as well.

Despite this, I managed to get a few videos done; I gave you my 21 best ideas for indoor macro photography, I reviewed a very interesting nifty-fifty lens for Sony, and I came up with a theory of why black pro-mist filters do not really work for macro photography. I also made a video for my Patreon supporters listing 7 books and films that changed my life.

So, all in all, I think I made this into a very good month, despite the conditions I had to work in. At the moment the whole family is healthy and filled with energy, including me, and I hope that we can stay that way for most of February!

Most Loved Photography Youtubers

poll.png

I did a list a long time ago, with the most popular photography youtubers among my followers. I thought it was time for a 2022 update. So I asked my instagram followers who their favorite photography youtubers are, and I then summed up all the channels who received at least 2 mentions, into the list below. Enjoy!

  1. Thomas Heaton
  2. Morten Hilmer
  3. Thomas Shahan
  4. James Popsys
  5. Kai W
  6. Nigel Danson
  7. Adam Gibbs
  8. Jared Polin
  9. Peter McKinnon
  10. Sean Tucker
  11. Gavin Hardcastle (fototripper)
  12. Andrew Lanxon
  13. Stephan Wiesner - in German!

Many of these I already watch on a regular basis, but some of them I hadn't even heard of, such as Morten Hilmer and Adam Gibbs! Since these are voted by people who follow my Instagram, who obviously like my videos to some extent, it seems likely that their videos will resemble mine in some sense, so I am very keen on going through this list myself!
