Micael Widell Newsletter #30

Captain's log

September was a very unusual month for me, in good and in bad ways. This month I was the most distracted I've ever been from doing my photography and youtube work, but I discovered something new and very interesting that I think will change the future for everyone who is in art or photography.

A big part of the reason I was distracted from my regular work, was that we were travelling for a couple of weeks during the month, and the weeks we weren't travelling my son was sick and at home. This means that for pretty much the whole month, my son was not in kindergarten, and thus required company. When you have two small kids and they are both at home, it is very hard to do focused work. You can only do "light work", like some intermittent reading and research while keeping the children company. But going out photographing or editing videos is hard for me to do when I cannot focus 100% on that task.

Which leads me to my next big distraction during the month: NFTs. Since I had lots of time for "light work" during the month, and since I fell down the NFT rabbit hole the second I bought my first NFT, I have spent countless hours learning about NFTs, buying many, and also selling a few of my own photographs as NFTs (17 to be exact).

The NFT world sure is addicting though. You easily end up spending a whole day switching between different discords and twitter (I actually set up a dedicated twitter account for my NFT tweets, because I remember how annoying NFT people can be if you are not into NFTs yourself yet).

NFTs are very exciting, and I am happy I have taken some time to really learn about them and the communities around them. But this world is also very exhausting and addictive, because so much is happening every day, every hour! So I will try to take a step back now and be slightly less involved, so I can continue focusing on the work that still gives me the most happiness and inner peace: photography and making youtube videos.

Resting Raindrops

If you are an NFT collector and if you like my work, I recommend watching this video about my new NFT collection Resting Raindrops, and to consider picking one of my NFTs up before they are sold out. If they would not sell out completely by the end of the year, I plan on burning/removing the ones that are unsold, to close off this very first collection of mine forever. After this I think I might make a yearly NFT collection with my very best photos from that year, but I haven't decided on anything definitely yet.
