Micael Widell Newsletter #13

Captain's log

This will be a short edition of the newsletter, as I am pretty swamped with work right now. But me and my family feel healthy and happy so far, and I hope all of you do so as well.

Spring is coming to Sweden, but it hasn't really been that warm yet – it is a pretty cold spring so far. Mostly I have been photographing ants, which I have made videos about (more on that later in this newsletter).

Looking forward to even warmer weather and a wider variety of insects outside to photograph soon. Sweden's way of handling the coronavirus has been quite centered around the concept "think for yourselves" so we are still allowed to be outside as much as we want, which I am thankful for.

40 000 Q&A Live Stream

To celebrate that my YouTube channel has passed 40 000 subscribers, I am doing a Questions and Answers Livestream today, on May 3rd. If you are reading this newsletter after the livestream you can still of course watch it, but not ask any real time questions in the chat :) Come join me 9 PM European time or during the day American time.

40k LIVE Q&A – Ask Me Anything Live!

Laowa Live Stream

My favorite macro lens manufacturer Venus Optics asked me to do a live stream for them. They have a series of live streams every Friday with big names within macro photography such as Nicky Bay, Stewart Wood and Thomas Shahan. Great initiative and it was a lot of fun! In my live stream I tried to summarize my best tips on macro photography in one hour.

Go watch it on Facebook or on Youtube.

My best photo of April

I like this photo I took of a Wood Ant in a forest near my house. Check this video to see me take it and this video to see me edit it.

My Published Videos since the last newsletter

  • The Most Important Day of My Life (A Love Story)
  • My Best Tips for Ant Macro Photography
  • Ant Macro Photography – Live Photo Editing!
  • Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro Lens Review (and sample photos)

Goodbye for now

Thank you for reading this far, and see you in a month! Feel free to follow me on YouTube, Instagram and 500px in the meantime. And also feel free to tell your friends about this newsletter, and to reply to it if you have feedback or comments :)
