i’ve had a blast gardening and farming. i recently began my apprenticeship at everoak farm in orlando and already i have learned so much. i’ve moved so much mulch, cut down many trees, and planted seeds/ transplanted seedlings… it’s been good for me to learn the efficiency that is required for a farm.
i appreciate the hard labor of it all, i feel strong and directly seeing the impact of my work has been fruitful for me.
i harvested some green papaya so mike (the owner) let me take some home. i’ve been eating a lot of shredded papaya with chili oil, soy sauce, and (vegan) fish sauce….
i harvested sweet potatoes for the first time :’) it was so satisfying!! i got 9.5 lbs of the stuff. one of the potatoes alone was 4.5 lbs… it was bigger than my head!
i’ve got like 8 watermelons cooking on the vine and 6 luffa gourds … i will wait for them to dry and harvest them for sponges and seed. i’ll let you know when those are available.
my next purchase will be a scale so i can begin to weigh my dried herbs. i plan to sell them soon, but i need a scale to do it right. more on that soon.
besides that, i’ve been sharing seeds with my friends and eating local fruits from Audrey at second breakfast
